The water tastes fine fresh from the fridge, but then after it has been out for about an hour it smells and tastes like chlorine. Even though I have read that the Brita pitcher removes chlorine. I've never experienced this with any water before!
it might be the plastic the pitcher is made of. My brita doesn't smell like chlorine ever, even after the water sits out for room temp for hours.

I live in an apartment building that consistently has brown water coming out of it's faucets. I assume this might be rust. I have a brita machine, but there is still a lot of rust even with the brita. I am wondering if it is dangerous to drink this water?
Don't drink this water. There is no way a little britta machine could remove all the heavy metals from that water. Buy gallons of water from the supermarket until the pipes have been replaced/fixed. If you apartment complex has no plans on fixing this, call the health department. That is not healthy at all.

More important than how much water you filter through it - is that you change it before 3 months is up. The filter works by trapping ugly stuff in the filter material which is very porous. There is no way to clean the inside of the filter - and since it is in a moist environment, nasty stuff is going to eventually grow there.
The Brita site says that the filter can filter up to 500 liters or 132 gallons of water - but it also states to replace it every 3 months regardless of how much water you have filtered through it.

i really like mine. I can definitely tell the difference from tap water. The cons are that it takes a few minutes for the water to filter, and you have to keep filling it up (and waiting) for the water to filter. another con is that the filters cost around 7 bucks and it will last you a few months depending on how much water you drink. I think the cons are worth great tasting water (and coffee and tea and ice cubes)
or the kind that hooks up to the faucet is better.

A week ago in WalMart while coming back to school, I had a long shopping list. Of all the items on that long list, the bulkiest item is water. Water is the most abundant molecule on Earth if I recall correctly from all the useless physics classes I took in college. I wouldn’t say they were useless in the context that physics sucks and shouldn’t be studied but rather the way they were taught did me no good since I didn’t take anything away from them.
Regardless, every semester that I return to college, I end up carrying 10-15 cases (24 bottles / case) up the stairs to my room at UB. As you can probably guess, that is a lot of work (=F*D
) and I’m the type of person that avoids a large physical work value in the end. This year, returning to UB, we had to go into the electronics for a fan and continuing on we passed the water filters in the kitchenware section (I’m not sure if that’s what they call it).
