It,s been one week that I began to use the Brita pitcher, and I notice a lot of black particles on the upper level of the pitcher. They look like dried black tea, having the size of Nescafe powder particles. They float at the upper compartment of the pitcher.
What could they be?
According to: http://www.brita.com.au/help/frequently_ asked_questions
The black particles are tiny granules of food grade carbon that are used in the cartridge. Our carbon comes from natural sources, usually coconut shell, and can sometimes vary in shape and size. Some pieces can occasionally be unusually small and may escape into the funnel through the cartridge cap. These particles are food grade and the small amount that escape in no way affect the performance of the cartridge.
An effective means of minimising this is to re-soak the cartridge as you would with a new cartridge.
Also:
All materials used in a Brita Cartridge are non-toxic, top foodgrade quality and are in no way dangerous

Free Brita And Bareilles! - The Ellen DeGeneres Show
Hey Ellen. Last year we moved into our trailer, and when summer came around we had ants horrible. They would stay in our cereal boxes, and go around anything sugar. But what we did to get rid of them was get this home defense spray stuff that we sprayed in the corners in the kitchen, and all around the outside of our home. Then we went to homedepot and got some of these triasicide pellets, that we sprinkled in our yard and underneath our skirting of our home. And i have never once had another ant in my house, ever. But also i got some airtight containers, and put all the cereal and chips in them so they wont smell the food.
Good luck ellen! and i hope you solve your ant problem. O and also you might want to try baby powder by ur windows and door, where they can come in, because they will not cross that stuff!
love ya love your show!

I read some of the other comments for getting rid of ants and noticed that none were similar to my remedy. I have had an ant problem this winter, as well, with them in my bathroom. They are of the scouting variety, not your coffee table variety. Just a few at a time. At about the same time as the first scout arrived, a spider took residence along the wall and cabinet junction. And as I have an adversion to killing spiders, she has been left alone. And in her stay in the bathroom, she has eaten quite a few of the scouting ants. It may not be everyone's answer to the problem, but I am very pleased with the results.
