What are these little black things (they look like beads)? Are they safe for me to still drink from the brita pitcher?

its from the filter. The filter in your Brita is a charcoal filter. It's perfectly safe if you drink it, but if it bothers you, just pick them out. They actually use that charcoal in poison victims to help clean out their system. So there is no harm.

I got a new Brita. I followed all the guidelines of soaking a new filter and rinsing it and letting it filter water a few times before actually using it. But there is black specs floating in my filtered water that I know is coming from the filter. Is this normal? And what is it?

It,s been one week that I began to use the Brita pitcher, and I notice a lot of black particles on the upper level of the pitcher. They look like dried black tea, having the size of Nescafe powder particles. They float at the upper compartment of the pitcher.
What could they be?

The black particles are tiny granules of food grade carbon that are used in the cartridge. Our carbon comes from natural sources, usually coconut shell, and can sometimes vary in shape and size. Some pieces can occasionally be unusually small and may escape into the funnel through the cartridge cap. These particles are food grade and the small amount that escape in no way affect the performance of the cartridge.

An effective means of minimising this is to re-soak the cartridge as you would with a new cartridge.

I see these black specs and always wondered what they are. They don't get into the filtered water and I've seen it in other people's Britas so I'm guessing it helps purify the water?

It's carbon from the filter. It's normal to see these. I found information on the Brita site, see below.

Changed the filter and there is still black sediment in my drinking water. Without the filter, there is no black sediment.

Any advice? Besides remove the filter (not an option, I have a baby)

Check the directions on the filter package. some filters require you to run a certain amount of water through the filter to get rid of the excess charcol. Also if you are still getting the same color of water, then I would return the filter to the store and get another one as it might be defective.
