Brita Carbon Cancer

Answers

Is Chloramine filtered out by typical carbon filters like PUR & Brita?

Most water districts in the US are converting to Chloramine. It replaces Chlorine. Chlorine evaporates out of standing water in an hour. Chloramine does not. Both these chemicals can accelerate: heart disease / cancer / illness. I want to know if it does any good to install a carbon filter on the showerhead / kitchen sink.

I do not think you remove chloramine is removed with those types of filters. I say this because I have several fish tanks, and if carbon removed that I would not need a dechloronator.

Are Your Pills Poisoning You with Plastic? - The People#39;s Pharmacy®

Plastic is convenient, lightweight, unbreakable and inexpensive. But controversy rages over its potential health risks.

BPA (bisphenol A) has become a target for criticism. It is used in everything from water bottles and football helmets to baby bottles and eyeglasses.

The FDA recently revised its formerly nonchalant attitude to the chemical, a potential hormone mimic. The agency now admits there may be some concern over BPA's effects on brain development in fetuses, babies and young children. Since BPA acts like estrogen, it might also influence breast and prostate development. The agency has called for additional research to be conducted by the National Toxicology Program.

In the meantime, the FDA suggests that consumers take steps to protect themselves and their children by not heating foods or liquids in hard plastic containers in the microwave, and by not putting hot liquids into sippy cups or bottles that contain BPA. The chemical is also found in the lining of metal cans. An article in (December 2009) revealed that a surprising amount of BPA had leached into some canned goods.

I have always recycled but am now trying to be more green and wonder why the commercials about water bottles say they are so horrible. I thought they were ok and were being recycled? Is it really bad to use them if I recycle? I have a newborn and use bottled water to make his formula when I cannot pump. I do use a brita pitcher for my own water but I dont feel it is as clean as the sterile baby water. Also any tips for someone new to green living?

Actually, water from the tap is typically much cleaner than bottled water. Tap water goes through much more stringent and frequent testing and is subject to much stricter laws than bottled water. Bottled water is, basically, unregulated. It can contain many different compounds at levels much higher than tap water, including heavy metals.
