Brita Filter Green Algae

Answers

Brita filter jug, green algae developed.?

I found out why it happens, how to solve the problem, but does anyone know if it's going to hurt me? I feel sick after drinking out of it and I'm wondering if it's all in my head.

Umm... clean the algae out?

Ideally run it through the dishwasher.

Brita water filter container formed a green algae-bacteria like film along the bottom. How do I clean this?

What exactly is this green film? Is it dangerous and is it preventable?

Clean it with Bleach, and rinse well. Algea grows when the PH level and the alkalinity level are perfect for growth.

Plan to clean out your Brita (including the filter holder) regularly to prevent this happening again.

What is this green water in my Brita Filter?!!?

(Los Angeles) Every now and then, the water in my brita water filter turns green at the bottom. I've cleaned the filter many times and changed the filter itself. Is my filter growing algae or something or is the filter not catching something coming out of my faucet?!!

This is the second time it's happened and I have not exceeded the lifespan of both filters. Is this green stuff going to cause me to get sick? I may have drank a cup or two without noticing.

I would guess that the green color is from copper pipes and probably not from algae unless the source is not filtering it out. Algae would only be there and green if it had a light source. It would not live without light and some food and so would be brown. Oxides of copper would be green, like an old penny, like the inside of old copper pipes which is the only material that most municipalities allow in the US for home water service. Always struck me as funny, here anyway, that the town can run PE pipe to your house, frequently from iron pipe, yet they require copper house lines with silver based soldier, no more lead (for good reason).

Why is there algae in my Brita pitcher?

Almost every day I have to scrub a green ring out of the bottom of my Brita filter water pitcher. It's like it's algae or something, but it grosses me out. How can I stop it?

It's one of the drawbacks of the Brita; I get it, too.

You should wash it with hot water and soap, not just remove the ring from the bottom. Also scrub the plastic insert.

Whats wrong with water quality in my home?

I live in Detroit suburb. We use Brita filter (pitcher) for drinking water. Lately the water has started to develop a green algae (I am not sure if it is indeed algae, however - same green as you see if water stands for long time). Changing a newer filter does not help. Should we get our water quality checked, and how one goes about in doing so? Thank you very much in advance.

Brita 35530 Ultramax Dispenser

We bought one of these a few months back. It immediately started leaking from the dispenser. We thought maybe it was a fluke, so we took a chance and simply traded it for a new one. This new one lasted 3 days, THEN started leaking from the dispenser. Looking at the nozzle, there is no washer on the outside, only the inside. So I unscrewed the nozzle, took a washer off a small mag light that I had, and put that on the outside. Hasn’t leaked since. All they needed to do was spend half a penny for a washer on the outside and I’d have given it 5 stars Brita: 35530 Think of it as water filtration for dummies. You don’t even need to keep an eye on the calendar, the electronic sensor lets you know with a flashing arrow when it’s time to change filters. Not to mention this system sure beats the heck out of paying for and lugging home gallon after gallon of water. Brita’s...
