I found out why it happens, how to solve the problem, but does anyone know if it's going to hurt me? I feel sick after drinking out of it and I'm wondering if it's all in my head.
Umm... clean the algae out?
Ideally run it through the dishwasher.
I believe the instructions say to soak it for 15 minutes. I don't think it makes any difference if it's upright or upside down. As long as it is completely under water.
How long is it safe to keep water in a brita jug for?? (With a fresh filter in) Maxtra filter.
I keep adding to it when it gets low and I keep it out of the fridge.

I have the pourable pitcher (with the filter in the middle)--though I keep it in the fridge. I wash it every week in the dishwasher and every 3 weeks leave it soaking in a bleach solution. Just me being over protective--esp during the summer when bacteria grows so quickly in the desert heat!
im thining of getting my parents one of those brita water filter jugs for christmas, but we have a water softener, and im just wondering if it will effect it in any bad way.
No it wont effect it at all. I have a water softener and use a brita water filter. Never had any problems.
i've got a brita water filter i think buying bottled water is more expensive and it causes more pollution than a brita maxtra cartridge which u get a month a time from in your brita filter jug!!!
I love my Brita. But I think it's more that the water is super cold from the fridge that makes it taste better.
