I live in an older appartment building in Ontario Canada. My tap water smells and tastes bad. I'm sure it's because the pipes are molding or decomposing. I bought a Brita tap filter which is great for drinking water but is not made for use with hot water. This causes a big problem when washing dishes. I can't have a dishwasher. I usually boil my dish water before use but this takes so long it really turns the job into a chore. What can I do (somewhat cheaply) to fix my water? And no, moving is not an option.
Buy dishwashing gloves. If water is moldy or filthy you may be absorbing it in your skin thru the pores and if that's the problem I'd invest in buying paper plates and dishes in bulk cheap so the residue doesn't ingest in your stomach.

Hey there. I'm in my second semester of college and I'm trying to stay hydrated (the last semester left me with an excruciating kidney stone). So I have my Brita filter, of course and with it came this reusable water bottle. It was fantastic for a while and I got an even bigger one...this was all last semester, mind you. After a while I noticed that they all started to get moldy. Obviously my only option in a dormitory is to hand wash. Yet no matter how much I rinsed with scalding water and soap, the mold smell kept coming back...or the water would taste soapy.
Also, the plastic tops would be a serious problem
Okay that was really long-winded. Sorry. Anyway. I'm about to give up on these plastic things for good and am considering purchasing either an aluminum or steel bottle. But before I do, I want to know...do they get moldy? I mean, I'm guessing it's highly probable since...it's metal. But are they better than plastic as far as mold goes? Thanks!
any container can get moldy if you do not dry it well enough before putting it away. never put dishes away wet
