They're not actually in the pictcher but in the filter part - the part you put the water in. It comes from the part that the water filters through. It kind of freaks me out. We rinsed out the filter part by "sloshing" the water around to clean out the filter but more came out. We've only had it about a month!
Make sure you soak your Brita filter in water for about 10 minutes and then rinse it off in clean water before you install it.
If there are still some carbon pieces floating in your water dump the first pitcher of water and try again.
Either way, these little specs pose no threat but they can be annoying.

i hear that its bad to keep the brita filter's bottom part not covered with the water. but how bad is it if its left like that for an hour? i appreciate your help thanks!
Brita uses activated carbon to purify water through the process of adsorption, a surface phenomenon where the minerals, salts and other water materials are removed. These materials are normally deposited at the surface of the adsorbent granules. Overtime the filter gets saturated and it effectiveness decreases. So it has to be replaced regularly. As long as the filters are properly maintained, you do not have to worry about water levels in your Brita.

My Brita Faucet Filter has gotten some build-up in the creases (on the exterior, not part of the filtration system). The switch that you use to switch from filtered to regular water has so much build-up that I can barely change it. The build-up in the creases is kind of a brownish-orange.
I've soaked it in vinegar but the problem still exists. My wife wants to WD-40 the switch! Any better ideas?

I have a brita jug with the water filter. I've had it for 5 months, but only really used it a month. I noticed there are white spots on the bottom of the filter part, is that normal or is that bacteria growing or something? I'm just wondering since its supposed to last much longer and I've only used it a month really.
The filters are suppose to be changed every 2 months even if you are not using it that much.
Does anyone know if a brita water filter ment to replace Kenmore part number 9010 will fit and function as Kenmore part number 9030? The brita filters are MUCH cheaper, but I want to know that it will work before I buy it.
Check the Brita filter package - it may list the companion part numbers for Sears and other manufacturers filters.

Hi. I have a brita OB03 filter that indicates "reduces 99% lead at pH 6.3". So, if I run multiple filters in series, each time the input water being the output of the previous filter, will the filter continue to reduce the lead content by 99%. That is, will the filtering "compound"? With hypothetical numbers with large numbers for clarity, if the water starts with 1,000,000 parts lead then after one filter it will contain 10,000 parts. After a second filtering, it will contain 100 parts, and so on..
Are Energy Drinks the New Diet Drink? - That#39;s Fit
Will switching from soft drinks to energy drinks help me lose weight?
I know plenty of people who guzzle soft drinks and plenty of people who don't like drinking water. They are constantly looking for a tasty alternative to help them quench their thirst. So, are energy drinks the answer?
Perhaps. If you're a soda addict, each 8-ounce can you knock back without giving it a second thought will set you back about 100 to 120 empty calories. There is no calorie savings with some of the newer energy drinks, like Red Bull, plus they pack crazy amounts of caffeine and may not be great for your teeth. The same amount of the classic sugary energy drinks like Gatorade deliver just 50 calories. True, that's just half the damage of soda and may contain a few essential vitamins and minerals, but it's still a fairly significant slug of calories. Plus, who drinks just 8 ounces of anything, especially when you're parched? As a recent Columbia University study shows, most people easily chug their way through nearly 250 extra calories a day. Researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health also found that liquid calories had a stronger impact on weight loss than calories from solid foods.
