How to seal a crack in a plastic water filter?
Geometric shadowplay

I simply dropped my Brita water filter and it has a crack where water slowly comes out. can i just put duct tape over it? or juts super glue the crack from the outside?

i would use a 2 part epoxy glue that is water proof as duct tape will last 5 minutes and super glue has a tendency to crack and leak in this situation.

do plastic water kettle/boilers cause cancer? Or brita filters in fridge?
Retiring the Mid-1990s Brita Pitcher

I have a proctor-silex one and I'm worried about it causing cancer since it directly comes in contact with the water I boil

Also, anyone know if brita filters are safe to put in the fridge?

If the products you use are made by a reputable company, then you can be sure they are as safe as it is possible to be today.

If you are still worried, there are some ingredients discussed on www.after-cancer.com/wp-admin/contacts - look for Parabens and see what else is there.

Good luck

What do you do with used Brita filters?

I have a Brita filter, and I just finished using my first removable cartridge that you place in the filter. But what do you do with the used Brita filters? It feels weird to put it in the trash and create more waste when I initially bought the Brita filter to minimize my plastic bottle usage and be more environment-friendly.

Any thoughts?

I just put mine in the trash. You still saved a load of plastic by not using bottles.

How are water filters like Brita better for the environment?

Than plastic bottles when you can recycle the plastic bottles but have to toss the Brita filters in the garbage?

Does somewhere recycle Brita filters?

In Canada, every Brita filter comes with an envelope to return the used filter for recycling. This is not the case in the US for some strange reason. We should really complain to Brita about that.

I've been putting my Brita filters in the recycle bin.

Is fabric softener residue dangerous in drinking water?

I put a Brita Filter in storage in the same box as some fabric softener (for a period of around 3 months). Now, the filter (the plastic part, as the actual filter cylinder is new) smells like fabric softener. Does drinking the water from this filter pose a health hazard?

Use A Brita Filter Jug For Your Drinking Water Needs

If you don’t like the taste of the water from your tap and you’re fed up lugging bottled water back from the supermarket to your house then you should maybe think about getting yourself a Brita filter jug  - they’re cheap, easy to use and very much better for the environment than using bottled water. The number of empty plastic bottles that find their way to landfill sites every year is enormous. Fewer than 25% of discarded water bottles are recycled at the moment. People are becoming more environmentally aware, but it doesn’t seem likely that this percentage will grow rapidly. Apart from that, even recycling is a poor second to not consuming in the first place isn’t it?
