Changed the filter and there is still black sediment in my drinking water. Without the filter, there is no black sediment.
Any advice? Besides remove the filter (not an option, I have a baby)
Check the directions on the filter package. some filters require you to run a certain amount of water through the filter to get rid of the excess charcol. Also if you are still getting the same color of water, then I would return the filter to the store and get another one as it might be defective.

So i just bought my first water filter and it was the brita one, This is not the advance one with the other features like sprinkle, but anyways i installed it, and did that 5 minute conditioning like the booklet said. Although i didn't time it, but the green light is not on. and also when i use the filter for a glass of water there is like little bubbles on top. Is that normal or?

My Brita Faucet Filter has gotten some build-up in the creases (on the exterior, not part of the filtration system). The switch that you use to switch from filtered to regular water has so much build-up that I can barely change it. The build-up in the creases is kind of a brownish-orange.
I've soaked it in vinegar but the problem still exists. My wife wants to WD-40 the switch! Any better ideas?
I know on the brita website, it says to hand wash it. However, I was just wondering if anyone has washed it in the dishwasher anyway without problems. Thanks so much!
Well if it says to hand wash it I would, it might melt from the heat in the dishwasher.

First Do not let the filter dry. If the pitcher is empty, the tank is filled immediately. If the pitcher is full or partially full, the bottom of the filter is in the water and keep moist. ,SecondThe filter should be washed and soaked exactly as instructed. Some of the coal is washed in the package, and if you do not mind that you have stains in the water. This is not a big problem, something to consider. Third Never too hot or warm water through the filter.
If you follow the instructions, you will have, as we did, gallons of water that cost less and taste as good or better than buying water in plastic containers in the supermarket.
