I don't think so. You might filter out some of the chemicals and other stuff, but I doubt it will be crystal clear.
I read about an experiment where some guys were pouring cheap vodka through a Brita filter to see if it would make it taste better. It turns out that after sending it through the filter about 5 -10 times, it tasted a lot better, on par with some of the better vodkas. But my point is: it was still vodka.
If you want to try peeing in your Brita pitcher, go for it, but I suspect it will still come out yellow.

I came across this question posted by JJ but I was unable to answer as the question was no longer open. My answer is below.
No. The North American Brita company is owned by Clorox corporation. While Brita filters can be recycled in Europe, there is no recycling program for them in the U.S. and Canada.
A group of us are working on a campaign to ask Clorox to create a take-back recycling program for the filter cartridges.
I encourage you to read my blog posts about this issue and then join our Yahoo Group if you'd like. At this point, we are writing letters to the executives at Clorox but will be planning further actions when we figure out our strategy.

Does somewhere recycle Brita filters?
In Canada, every Brita filter comes with an envelope to return the used filter for recycling. This is not the case in the US for some strange reason. We should really complain to Brita about that.
I've been putting my Brita filters in the recycle bin.

Most large Tesco and Sainsburys have a collection point (looks like a bin, but has a sign on saying "not a bin, for Brita cartridges" or similar). Ask at customer services if you can't see it.
Is it healthy? I used it for a few months and my left kidney started to really hurt. I also noticed dark water like it had Charcoal in it. I also took the round filter out and hit it against the counter and noticed dark Charcoal in the water. Could they cause me to have a kidney infection?
I followed all the instructions to the tee.
I still found dark residue in the bottom of my coffee maker and, in the bottorm of the pitcher.
I have read a couple of the other comments, and was a bit surprised by what they suggested.
The Brita isn't my first choice, but it is widely used, cheap and effective.
I would not worry too much about the fluoride, even though i disagree with its addition to public water supplies. It should be a supplement administered by a dentist, or controlled by a doctor.
The black sediment you mention is activated charcoal, and certainly while the unit is new, poses little or no threat to health. When the filter is reaching its maximum life/capacity to remove elements the charcoal may have absorbed some chemicals at that stage.
These units recommend that you discard the first batch of filtered water when a new filter has been fitted.
The process of distillation is not suitable for everyday drinking water. It has medicinal use, -it will strip out chemicals and essential minerals, so is best reserved for detox programs.
I personally used a gravity filter in a crock; "STEPHANI". Yes, i get charcoal sediment, but it is trapped in the unit below the tap so it gets flushed out when i scrub the filter.
Cost effective and simple to use and maintain.
I have tank - rainwater here, it is pretty clean, but some dust etc is flushed from the roof. The filter needs scrubbing either with a very stiff brush, or coarse stainless steel wool. I reserve some SS wool for this purpose alone, never use a dirty oily one.
The kidney pain is most likely something else; maybe the kidneys were finally flushing out some toxins and some pain was associated, or it may be coincidental, and another medical cause is behind it.
Brita filter recycling coming soon to So Cal | The Red, White, and ...
I followed up this morning with the marketing supervisor at my local Whole Foods to see if the store is planning on taking part in Preserve’s Gimme 5 recycling program, which recycles used Brita pitcher filters as well as other No. 5 plastics (polypropylene). At present, there are no drop-off locations in Southern California for this type of recycling; the only way to recycle these products is by mailing them to Preserve’s recycling depot in Cortland, NY.
The marketing supervisor seemed interested in taking part in the program, and asked me to email her the information I had come across on the Preserve website. I decided to call Preserve to find a direct contact for her, and was informed that Preserve is, in fact, currently in talks with the So Cal Whole Foods division to roll out No. 5 collection bins in stores across the region. The gentleman I spoke with said the first bins would be available within a couple of months. He encouraged me to have the marketing supervisor contact him, however; he said that grassroots support would help move the process along.

If you use Brita filters, you might have run into the same problem I have. What do you do with one once it expires? I don't feel comfortable just tossing these things in the trash, so I did some research last year and found out about the Take Back the Filter campaign. At the time, there were some folks in Oakland who were collecting used filters to send a strong statement to Brita to encourage the company to take responsibility for the used filters. Six months later, I have finally gotten around to taking my bag of filters to Whole Foods. The guy's blank expression at the customer service desk did not give me much hope. He knew nothing of this program. He called management. No, they won't take them at that store. He called across town. Not there either. "OK, nevermind. I'll just figure it out." I returned to the Take Back the Filter site and learned that Preserve is actually doing the...
