Does Brita water filter remove sodium fluoride salt and mercury in drinking water ?

sodium fluoride is said to be harmful to human and so is mercury and other heavy metals.
Water supply in United States are regularly treated with Sodium Fluoride?
I want to know if the Brita filter or some other consumer product remove such harmful substance from our drinking water.

What can I buy to filter the salt from a water softner out of my drinking water (kitchen tap)? ?

I have hard water so I bought a water softner which puts salt in the water that comes out of all the faucets, showers, etc in my house. I spend lots of money buying bottles of water because I can't drink the water that comes out of my sink because it tastes weird (there's lots of sodium in it). A Pur or Brita water filter (while good at taking lots of other sediments and stuvff out) still leaves the salt in water and it still tastes weird. So is there anything that specifically takes the salt back out that my water softener puts into my tap water?

absolutely helvelin
that installation does not comply with the Water Regs, any problems with the plumber ie they dont want to come back or say it will be a while, call the local water company to send an inspector to look at it

edit
the unit could have a problem with it but there still has to be a drinking water tap which bypasses the softener.

the salt used displaces the absorbed calcium and magnesium on the resin. the water which is produced after hardness removal then contains extra sodium. this can be a problem for people on restricted salt diets re high blood pressure, heart attacks. thats why you have a separate drinking water tap so you have the natural water salts but not the sodium

Is filtered brita water bad for fish? What are some colorful fresh water fish?

I am deciding whether to start a fresh water fish tank or a salt water fish tank. I have heard arguments on both sides on which tank is easier to keep. I know that salt water fish are a lot prettier than fresh water fish. Is there any nice fresh water fish that are colorful like salt water fish? I have a 40 gallon tank. Any suggestions?

On another topic… I had a beta fish that died after about 2 days of switching his water. I used half Brita filtered water and half bottled water. A couple days after he died I got 2 gold fish and they died very soon also. I cleaned and changed the water with the new gold fish but used the same combo of water. Is Brita water bad for fish?

Brita water is ok for fish, no problem there. It is equal to water that has been run through a filter that contains carbon ( interesting that the Brita does the same as your tank filter yet people say it's bad) Brita filters do not remove the vast majority of minerals from the water. It will remove suspended materials but not dissolved materials and would not affect the hardness for example. So your Brita didn't do it.

As for colorful freshwater fish I would suggest you check out African cichlids and killifish. They might surprise you.

Brita Filter Jug - Because Clean Water Is Good For You

Although I never really believed the hype about bottled water being somehow better for you than plain old tap water, I must admit that I was more than a little surprised to discover that it can, in certain cases, be bad for you. It seems that some mineral waters have a relatively high salt content - which is not good for you if you have high blood pressure. Just to check, I picked up three different brands in my local supermarket and sure enough, the sodium content varied by as much as an order of magnitude. Personally I prefer to use a Brita filter jug  anyway - it’s a lot cheaper.

I went exactly 6 weeks without getting sick

After calling-in the last ten minutes of my last class by playing Michael Jackson and bracing myself in my chair, Eduardo and I returned home. He told Marjory I had diarrhea (which is the same in Spanish minus the "h," by the way) and they worked diligently to fix it. Bless their hearts, they made a tea of oregano, salt, sugar, and yeast (I think). The tea was fine--I think the goal was to settle my stomach, which was a bit agitated. The problem was the rest of their treatment. Their method seemed peculiar to me. It was true for my cold as well: they suggested whiskey for a cold or cough...which always seemed to me like an excuse to drink whiskey since it actually depresses the system, and water can flush you out much better.
