My Brita filter works fine in the filter mode, but in the other 2 modes of unfiltered mode, the water flow is far from when the unit was new. I believe it may have something to do with the little rubber balls the the valve lever moves. Can these be replaced or fixed somehow? Any help would be great! Thanks

Brita Filter Pitcher - Please watch this video before you decide on buying the Brita Filter Pitcher or not. This is in real time.

1) If the electronic filter change indicator breaks or runs out of batteries, is the whole system useless?
2) What are the pros and cons of Brita pitchers?
3) If the filter should be change, and I keep using it, what would happen (would the water come out slower, impurities in the water, etc.)?

I have a Brita pitcher, so I can help you with questions 2 and 3. The pros are that I don't have to keep running out to buy bottled water, and I feel more confident about the water I'm drinking. The cons are that the water takes a few minutes to filter, so if I forgot to fill up the pitcher the night before, then it feels like an eternity to filter in the mornining when I want to make coffee. Ok, really, it's only a few minutes, but that's a con when you're used to instant gratification.

According to the Brita website, the filters "fill up" with junk over time and that's why you have to replace them periodically. But they say if you do not replace it, then it will just stop filtering so the worst thing will be "tap water in, tap water out". But it won't add any impurities that weren't already there.

I was wondering if i could filter my beer with a brita filter. I have tried to use coffee filters but its too slow and doesn't do much anyways. Have you tried coal filters? How did it work?

Why exactly are you filtering your beer? If you're worried about how fast it passes through a coffee filter, you're not doing it right and you're not showing the proper patience. If you let it sit in the secondary fermenter long enough, it will be crystal clear.

I've always found that if I get impatient and look for a faster alternative, it ruins the beer. Instead, I start another batch...it keeps my mind off of the batch I'm waiting for.

If you really need it clear and don't want to wait, use a clarifier like bentonite or isinglass.
