How do you get the filter out of a brita pitcher?

I feel like an idiot because it's time to change out the filter on my pitcher. It's the first time I'm changing it. I opened the filter and have it soaking in the water and have taken out the trash with the package with the instructions on it...
I tried twisting the old filter, but it barely budged and I don't want to get it stuck.
I have the vintage pitcher if that makes a difference.

Just push it up from the bottom

What water filter is good for getting good tasting water?

Hello and thank you in advance. I live in CT and in case you don't know, there is barely any city water here, most of us all rely on wells. I have been using a brita water filter for a while now to filter the water first before I drink it. But it just is not filtering enough of the stuff out. I still get an after taste. (I have one of those pitchers where you stick the filter in it and then fill one end from the tap and then it gets filtered and then you pour it out through a separate opening.

Are there better water filters? What brands?

I really don't want to buy bottled water. Even though I recycle, I don't want to be part of that whole industry.

Anyway, thanks for your help!

Frankly speaking, I like the PUR CR-6000 2-Stage Pitcher a lot. It uses two filters -- a carbon filter to reduce chlorine and sediment, and a second to reduce lead and copper.

I've found it far better than Brita as it gives me the best tasting water I've drunk. You can also try Clear2O Original Water Pitcher. Both of these brands do a good job for me.

Often, I like to build my own water filters when I need that little extra.

Good Glass Water Pitcher ?

so more and more we keep hearing about how it's not good to really "re-use" plastic water bottles. I've pretty much stopped buying plastic water bottles, and stuck to my Tap via Brita Filtered Water... But... I have been transferring my Brita Water to a 2 liter Plastic bottle that I bought with water in it to start off, but have been re-using it with my filtered water.

I think I need to now stop doing that and start using some kind of safe Glass Water Pitcher, and wondered if anyone had found a good reliable one they like, was looking a this one:

opinions on this one or have you found one you like better somewhere else ?
im actually looking for a pitcher that hold like a gallon of water, i try to have at least that much filtered from my brita in the fridge cold so its ready to drink.

if you change your mind from glass, how about Tupperware, they make those containers in all sorts of sizes and should be safer than the thin plastic bottles you are talking about re-using from the grocery store. Ceramic can work too, but try tupperware stuff, they are at the grocery store and Target and all and are pretty economical and durable too.

The Adventures of Brita

You know you're in trouble when you get stuck at Step 2. I didn't even know what an aerator on a faucet was until about 20 minutes ago. One of the first things I discovered as a new Philadelphian is that the water down here is awful. I truthfully have zero desire to know what's swimming around in the stuff that comes out of my faucet. I feel a bit sorry for giving it to my cats, and they lick their own butts. That's saying a lot. Upon my discovery, I started purchasing bottled water. I love the convenience of having bottled water on hand, but the expense of it adds up quickly (particularly when you consume as much water as I do) and I hate thinking of all my convenient water bottles ending up in some landfill that could be put to better use. Considering the fact that my refrigerator is approximately the size of a postage stamp, that excluded purchasing gallon jugs of water. 5 weeks after...

Sunday - One Small Change Challenge Review

This challenge has been a good experience. My family has learned to live without paper towels! I never thought it would be possible. We did slip up a couple of times, but for the most part we stuck to using cloth. I feel good about our part in helping reduce the use of paper products. I have also enjoyed shopping Etsy.com and eBay for paper alternatives. Who doesn't love a little shopping? For February's challenge I plan to cut out plastic water bottles. I pack a cooler everyday to take to work so I can have easy access to cold drinking water. We had to give up our mini fridges earlier in the school year due to electrical problems in our building. I used to buy a jug of water every few days to keep in the fridge and pour from. So, now, I pack 4 water bottles to drink during the day. I do recycle the bottles, but I feel guilty even using them. We bought a Brita filter pitcher...
