Brita Filter?
BRITA

I was recently told that urine becomes drinkable if you run it through a Brita filter. Is this true? I drink a lot of water, and in turn, have to go to the bathroom quite a bit. This would save me a lot of time and money if it is true.

Yes, it is indeed true, Grasshoppah.

Will a brita water filter filter out the alcohol in mouthwash?
Filter

I know that those brita filters can filter out impurities in cheap booze and make them taste alot better. I was wondering if it could filter out the alcohol in mouthwash?
I guess I phrased my question wrong.

I want the alcohol seperated from everything else in the mouthwash. So I want everything else filtered out.

No because alcohol isn't the only liquid used in mouthwash. Also filtering doesn't separate liquids only removes the solids. Oh and please don't follow up with a question asking if you can filter NyQuil. LOL!

How does fluoride in our water affect our health negatively and does brita filter it out?
Brita Filter Cartridge

I've heard a little about fluoride in sink water and i was wondering what all the noise is about. Also, i don't want to get cancer or anything so i was wondering how accurate a Brita filter pitcher is in removing these harmful additives, thanks in advanced! Tyler

Many people have died or become sick due to the toxic effects of fluoride. It is highly reactive, it is a neurotoxin, and it is carcenogenic at even low levels. Both the Nazis and the US studied fluoride as a poison gas for use during WWII.

Even the small amount of fluoride added to domestic water systems cause flurosis and brittle bones among a percentage of the population. The supposed benefits in use to prevent caries is hotly disputed. The original funding for a flawed study in the 1930s was funded by Alcoa (to help minimize negative impact of the many poisonings due to this dangerous waste product). Fertilizer plant flue gases are trapped in water and shipped directly to municiple water systems.

A traditional water filter does not remove fluoride. You need either a reverse osmosis filter or a distiller. The filters are expensive and must be replaced, and the distiller removes minerals which would perhaps cause de-minerization of your bones.

Get informed by buying "The Fluoride Deception" and reading information on the Internet. WARNING: You can count on glossy articles written for corporate media outlets by staff writers to be totally inept, incomplete, and misleading.

Does the Brita filter always need to be in water?
Brita Filter Cartridge

I have a brita water filter and I followed the directions when I opened the filter and soaked it for 15 minutes and I have been filtering water for a couple months now. Do I still need to keep it soaked in water all the time now? I don't always remember to fill it up so I was just wondering if it was unhealthy or not good or something...

You can always look up their website or call the company to make sure if it needs to be or not..but I don't keep mine wet 24/7 and I don't have a problem with mine at all. Makes me wonder though if you are right.

Is water that is filtered through a Brita filter the same as distilled water?
1/365 It Begins

I read recently that the tips of spider plant (and other plants') leaves will brown if they are watered with tap water, because of the chemicals added to tap water.
(http://www.plant-care.com/brown-tips-on- house-plants.html)

If I water them from water that has gone through a Brita filter, will that be the same as watering with distilled water?

No. Distilled water has had minerals taken out and tastes flat. It's good for refilling car batteries, etc., but it's not good drinking water.

Consumer Talk | Sun-Sentinel Blogs: Florida among the top ten ...

A recent New York Times series called "Toxic Waters" has rightly drawn attention to the issue of drinking safe – or unsafe, as the case may be – tap water.

The reports reveals that the federal government could do a much better job of regulating the Clean Safe Water Act. Apparently, 40 percent of the U.S. community water systems are in violation, resulting in what appears to be unsafe drinking conditions. About 23 million Americans consume "low-quality" water from the tap.

Florida's dirtiest water: Florida ranks among the top ten dirtiest states, according to AOLHealth.com . The website reports that approximately 17 million Floridians have been exposed to bad tap water containing more than 100 contaminants. More than 9 million Floridians, for example, may have been in contact with barium runoff from mines. For some perspective, approximately 25,000 of those 9 million people were exposed to amounts of barium considered to be unsafe. Additionally, about 11 million state residents may have drunk water with radium-26, found around natural uranium deposits, with more than 11,000 of those coming into contact with high levels.

Tap water

For years now, I've had a Brita filter in my kitchen - probably about as long as I've lived in New York City. I started keeping it not so much out of fear of New York City's tap water, which is supposed to be among the best tap waters in the country, but because it was nice to always have a cool pitcher of water waiting in the fridge.  Somehow it seemed so much more appealing than water straight from the tap.

I've never been good at changing the Brita filter on time, though - I sometimes let more than a month slide by after the filter "expires."  I knew this wasn't ideal behavior, but I didn't take the Brita guidelines very seriously.  I figured it was sort of like shampoo, where the instructions are really meant to make you use twice as much of the product as you actually need.

Well, it turns out that I was wrong!  The friend who I visited in San Francisco last weekend is married to a marine biologist, and we had an interesting conversation about the Brita.  They drink their water straight from the tap, as San Francisco water quality is also apparently excellent.  My friend's husband explained that bottled water is actually not as safe as good tap water, because you never know what happened to it during the shipping process - how many times those plastic bottles were exposed to very high temperatures, which could cause the plastic to leech into the water.  That's when I admitted in a very blase way that I use a Brita but do not change it regularly.
