How long is it safe to keep water in a brita jug for?? (With a fresh filter in) Maxtra filter.
I keep adding to it when it gets low and I keep it out of the fridge.

I have the pourable pitcher (with the filter in the middle)--though I keep it in the fridge. I wash it every week in the dishwasher and every 3 weeks leave it soaking in a bleach solution. Just me being over protective--esp during the summer when bacteria grows so quickly in the desert heat!
I bought two of them several years ago, one for me and one for my sister. We used ours for a couple of months, but didn't feel it made the water taste any better and so stopped. My sister loved hers and used it for years (I cannot say for sure, but she may still be using it).
It might depend on what it is in the water you are trying to filter out, it certainly didn't work for us.

I have a brita water pitcher and it needs a new filter. I am wondering if the filters that presidents choice sells will fit my brita jug. does anyone know?

A Brita jug is a very basic filtering system. It only removes enough contaminates to improve taste and odor of the water. It does not help with clarity and does not do much at all for any health related contaminates in the water.
A distillery removes all contaminates. It boils the water and collects the steam which is pure water. It then condenses the steam back into water which is pure.
Between the two is purification systems. Most people think of all water systems as filters, including distilleries but that simply is not true.
how long does it last before you have to replace the water
my brita jug goes in fridge its got a memo on it. its not about how long the filter lasts its about how long can you leave the water in the jug for until you have to change the water
in the Brita manual, they say no longer than 3 days.

Ours was not quite that expensive but it is very similar and the same brand etc (just a different model). I think ours was around $170? We had one of their other water filters and it broke and I thought maybe we would just go back to tap water, but one day of drinking our tap water put me right off that - our tap water tastes disgusting (even when boiled)! I like the fact that our water filter gives you filtered water immediately - I don't have the patience for the 'dripping jugs'. You can choose to 'chill' the water too, but we only ever use that if we have a BBQ etc. We just turn it on when we want to fill up a jug, and then turn it straight off and put the jug in the fridge to minimise the electricity use (it isn't a big electricity user, we just like to save electricity where we can). I also like the fact that we just put tap water in - no paying for water bottles that are delivered.
