Or does it just make tap water taste better? I can't really find info on their website. The reason I'm asking is because the tap water in my county is known for having high amounts of chlorine by-products suspected to cause miscarriage and I drink Brita-filtered tap water daily. I want to know if the Brita water is safer or if it just makes it taste better than tap. Thanks in advance!
From the Brita website:
Basically the activated charcoal in the filters traps the chlorine so you do not drink it.
Why is chlorine added to tap water?
Treatment Plants add chlorine at P.O.E. (Point of Entry) to remove germs and ensure they don't re-appear while the water travels many miles through the pipes to your tap (P.O.U. ...Point of Use). While the amount of chlorine added is regulated and not considered dangerous, it does impair taste and odour plus there is a definite chance that it can combine with organic compounds to produce chlorinated hydrocarbons that may lead to health related problems. The activated carbon in the Filter will reduce the chlorine by up to 99%.

I am asking mainly to see if there is a three stage filter instead of Brita's 2 stage "on tap" filter.
Pur and Brita filters aren't compatible. If you want a 3 stage, you'll have to get a Pur filter.

We normally drink bottled water at home. We use filtered tap water for our hot water. I was just wondering if tap watered filtered by Brita charcoal is safe to drink. My wife says activated charcoal does not filter out organisms or the tiny amout of parasites that might be in the municipal tap water.
I checked the label for the bottled water in the grocery store. They usually say it's been ozonated and filtered by activated charcoal. Even the water from the spring water says it's been filtered. That seems to tell me you need to filter out the organic impurities with charcoal and treat it with something to kill off the germs. Is that correct? Thanks.
Activated charcoal does clean the water to some extent. It will never be completely cleaned of unwanted minerals and microscopic organisms unless you distill it and pour it into a sterile container. But don't worry about it. We probably all ingest quite a bit of dirt and organisms without realizing it. Just think. When was the last time you ate without washing your hands first? Or handled money before you ate French fries? There were probably more germs in one dirty finger than the germs that pass through the charcoal filter in a month.
So relax. Just wash your hands before meals. The water that's been filtered is already much cleaner than the tap water. And the lowly tap water has already been treated and chlorinated. I know of some 80 and 90 year old people that have drunk tap water all their lives.

From their web site:
How the Brita® Pitcher Filter works
As you’ll see below, the process may sound complicated, but it’s really quite simple. All it takes to create fresher, great-tasting water are three separate filtration processes packed into every Brita® Pitcher filter.
* A sieve and bottom filter mesh screen out larger particulate matter from the water
* Activated carbon granules act like a sponge, sucking up Chlorine (taste and odor)
* An Ion Exchange Resin acts like a magnet to attract and hold the impurities Lead, Copper, Mercury, Cadmium and Zinc, at the molecular level

Are Brita On tap WATER FILTER good?
I have one and I love it. The filtered water does come out slowly and it takes forever to get cold, so I just keep a jug in the fridge. It has 3 settings on it, filtered, stream and spray, and the lever on the side allows for easy transitioning. But it’s not maneuverable so make sure to tell people that before they try to aim the spray into the corner of the sink and pop the whole thing off the faucet.
I have well water at my house and it tastes soooo strange to drink, but it is fine for cooking, etc but i love drinking water, so i actually bought a brita pitcher. You just fill the reservoir with water, it filters into the pitcher and you refigerate it. I use this water for drinking, and for ice. The pitcher cost me $10 at Lowe’s and the filters are a pack of three for $17 and it takes about 5months to use up a filter.
