Ok, I am trying to create chlorine via electrolysis, salt and water but something isn't working. I know this because everytime I test the solution with free chlorine test strips I am not getting a color change.
My goal here is to create a solution to purify water.
I am using 60g of salt to 1 liter solution. I am making about 125ml of solution at a time. I am using tap water that has been filtered through an activated charcol filter (brita), it does not have any chlorine in it.
I have tried AC current (120V) and three AA cells (600Mah 1.5V) wired into a functional battery. None of these things have worked though I am doing something because the water is changing color from clear to a lime green.
I appear to have a high ph level (around 8.4) according to the test strips.
The container is a coffee mug.
I have no clue what I am doing but if anyone could assist me that would be great. I seem to have followed the directions provided to me but I can't get it to work.
Oh and I know the danger of playing with electricity. I took full procautions and nothing bad happened. I have no intention of trying the house current again.

Am I creating hydrogen proxide? If so how do I stop creating proxide? I am getting bubbles from negative terminal wire.
Your chlorine is evaporating, that is why you are not detecting it.

If there's one thing that I suffer is not completely on my greenhouse in summer, the flies that accumulate at the top of the roof warm.
I hate the noise to stop, they do, the incessant hum, while around flutter above my head and my thoughts silent.
