To reset CHANGE FILTER light: Press and hold the LIGHT and LOCK pads until the CHANGE FILTER light blinks (approx. 3 seconds). The control is now reset for 12 months or another 416 gallons. [whichever comes first]. Note: the 7003 filter is rated at 6 months replacement because it filters more substances than the 7002. The pricing is the same. I have no problem with this over the past several years. If you buy from maytagfilters.com it will cost more ($35.95 if you buy 3) than the home center pricing ($34.95 for 1), but the AMAZON price is the best around.

So Toby from Diva Marketing posted an enlightening blog concerning World Water Day ( http://bloombergmarketing.blogs.com/bloomberg_marketing/2006/03/a.html ). Apparently, 14,000 people each year die from unsafe drinking water. This number raised an eyebrow or two, at least for me, for a number of reasons. First off, that's alot of people dying. Seriously. For that many people to be dying each year due to the inability to harness earth's most abundant and easily acessed resource, well, it just shows how far-reaching the "digital divide" stretches. Secondly (and more self-indulgently), Me and my roommates attatched a brita filter to my sink to cleanse the drinking water. It worked for about 4 months (indicated by the green light), but has been flashing red ever since. Predictably, the alarming red light has done little to stop our usage of said fliter- especially on those saturday mornings...
