How can I stop algae from forming in my Brita water pitcher?

I wash it regularly and have even used some bleach to try and minimize the algae. If I continually keep water in it, the bottom of the pitcher becomes covered in algae in a few days!

We keep the water at room temperature on the counter.

Thank you in advance!

Take your water filter away from direct sunlight or light coming in from the windows.

I had to keep my large tropical aquariums on walls away from the windows and sunlight to stop the glass going green with algae. The more light they had, the greener they got!
Left long enough the glass had to be mowed... but the water in the tank was beautifully clear.

so try relocating the filter jug and see if that helps.

Why is there algae in my Brita pitcher?

Almost every day I have to scrub a green ring out of the bottom of my Brita filter water pitcher. It's like it's algae or something, but it grosses me out. How can I stop it?

It's one of the drawbacks of the Brita; I get it, too.

You should wash it with hot water and soap, not just remove the ring from the bottom. Also scrub the plastic insert.

Is it ok to drink for a water pitcher that has some sort of algae at the bottom?

I have a Brita pitcher that I use for water daily. I have had it for about 6 months, and just recently a green sort have algae as started to show up on the bottom. I do not refrigerate it because I do not have a refrigerator. I wash it out, but about a week later it will start coming back. This does not really bother me, but I was just wondering if this was unhealthy in anyway. It seems that a little green wouldn't hurt.
I have not noticed a change in taste or anything. Also, I refill the water daily, so it is not stagnant. (although i guess there are residual drops left)

If it has not hurt you already, use it. Everyone needs some veggies. If it bothers you, clean it with a bleach solution. About 1 part bleach to 2 parts water.

Whats wrong with water quality in my home?

I live in Detroit suburb. We use Brita filter (pitcher) for drinking water. Lately the water has started to develop a green algae (I am not sure if it is indeed algae, however - same green as you see if water stands for long time). Changing a newer filter does not help. Should we get our water quality checked, and how one goes about in doing so? Thank you very much in advance.

My strange cherry shrimp experience - long read - Shrimp amp; other ...

So, I started keeping RCS in my 20 gallon El Natural tank some time ago (2 years?) and they adapted well and started breeding without any intervention on my part. I barely change the water and usually top off from my brita water pitcher. Tank mates ranged from red flame guppies, ottos, pygmy cories, snails, etc. Nothing aggressive or that could harm the shrimp. Then I noticed as time went by the shrimp went from a deep brick red, to a more orange and lighter and ligher shade. I thought perhaps it's b/c I have very low lighting (less than 2 watts per gallon) or that it was light brown substrate (Schultz aquasoil). None of the spawn ever became as large or as red as the original "big mama." Around the same time I noticed my pond snails and MTS seemed to be dying early with thin shells. So that got me thinking that something was missing from my water that was necessary for good shell...
