Does a freshwater aquarium need an oxygenator?

Hi, I just set up my first aquarium. It is 10 gallons size. I filled it with filtered water(brita filter) Installed the mechanical filter (with biobag in it) Installed the heater. The mechanical filter is running and cycling the water.

My question is whether I need to purchase an oxygenator (other name) the submerged device that will keep generating air bubbles.

Later I intend to put guppies, tetras, and a couple shrimp into this aquarium.

Thanks for advice

As long as the output of the filter breaks the surface, there's no need for any other oxygenation. Oxygen enters at the surface, and wherever there's a surface at which water and oxygen meet, oxygen dissolves into the water, and surface agitation is essential in this process.

i was thinking of starting a reef aquarium?

i was thinking of staring a reef aquarium and was wondering if brita water would be good to use but i would let it sit overnight. also i was wondering if you could tell me if these fish and anemone would do good in one tank together.. yellow and black clown goby, clown fish tear drop, royal gramma, crocea clam, white sebae anemone, flat anemone, cadylactis anemone, bubble anemone green finger laether soft coral thanks. im new at this and if it doesnt work please leave me a msg on everything i should have together that would be good! thanks

The short answer is: "you aren't ready for a reef tank. You need experience."

Even a long post here wouldn't do the full reasons justice. Some of those fish will get along...if the tank is big enough. The anemones will likely sting one another, most of the fish, and the corals to death.

Reefs are for people with a lot of experience in keeping marine tanks chemically stable and self-sustaining. They are the pinnacle of the hobby, not something you just think to jump into.

I advise you just take the time to read up on marine aquariums. "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" by BoB Fenner and "The New Marine Aquarium" by Michael Paletta are a godsend for new marine aquarists. Once you build up experience with the animals and the cycle of a captive marine environment, only then would you move on to successful reefkeeping (a level that I currently aspire to, but don't expect to reach for at least a few more years).

Besides, Brita is probably better known than GE for filters. Anyway, the filter looks, fits and works just like the original. I have noticed no difference in water flow or noise. The water tastes clean and looks clear. As for the vendor - Fridge Filters, I found that you cannot track...
