Weve been using the Brita pitcher for about 2 weeks now. Last night I poured me a glass in a white cup. A few minutes later there was a black ring of the charcoal dust at the bottom of the cup. Is that ok to drink? I know it says to run water through it a few times before using and weve done that.
youll be fine. you can ingest the charcoal in small amounts and nothing will happen to you. charcoal is a natural filter so it will pass through your system without any worries. i once asked my boss(who is a chemist) about this and he explained the whole process to me. i dont exactly remember what happens but i do remember that youll be fine. just rinse out your water filter or just replace it. i have been using the brita water filters for years and im still alive.

So i just bought my first water filter and it was the brita one, This is not the advance one with the other features like sprinkle, but anyways i installed it, and did that 5 minute conditioning like the booklet said. Although i didn't time it, but the green light is not on. and also when i use the filter for a glass of water there is like little bubbles on top. Is that normal or?

Assuming you're in the United States, I'll use the conversion of 1 gallon [US, liquid] = 128 ounces [US, liquid].
So at 64 ounces a day, you're only drinking 1/2 a gallon per day. According to Brita's website, you're supposed to change a Brita pitcher filter every 40 gallons. Thus, 1 Brita filter should last you about 80 days.

he always uses it and never refills it so when i go to get some water it is empty.... plus he never replaces the filters which arent cheap. should i mix some vinegar in the water to teach him a lesson the next time he gets a glass?
Seeing the look on his face is worth it. Go for it!
I only drink about 3 glasses of water from it daily because i also drink bottled water on the go. I'm single so no one uses it beside me. I don't think I should follow what they say in the directions because that is for someone who has a family of four. Should I replace it every 3-4 months?
The filter should be replaced every 40 gallons (average usefulness) or every 2 months (to avoid bacterial build-up).
Stretching it won't kill you, but you will probably start noticing a strange taste or odor as bacteria grows & it could make you sick if it goes too long.

seven tips for fresh water
Thirsty? You should be. Sadly, you may be one of those lost souls who can’t stand the taste of water. Sure, you could hydrate with juice or sports drinks, but then you’d be adding a bunch of sugar or artificial sweeteners into the mix. Yes, these drinks can play a role in a healthy diet, but 8 glasses a day of orange juice would be far more vitamin C than you need, as well as hundreds of sugar calories that you shouldn’t be consuming-calories completely unchecked by the fiber you get from eating actual oranges.
Actually, water is the way to go, so to help you get the stuff down, we’ve come up with a few simple tips. But before we get started, we’d like to make a preemptive response to all of you who will write in to “inform” us about that widely touted 2002 study in the that discounts the old 8-ounce-glass-of-water, eight-times-a-day rule. According to the study, a normal, healthy adult just needs to drink when he or she is thirsty to stay hydrated.
