Green On Bottom Of Brita

Answers

Why does the bottom of my Brita pitcher have green algea?

what causes this? it is not from heat...it is stored on a granite top and has a cooler temp.
***i do clean it at least once a month
the temp it is stored at is about 70

Your water may contain some nutrients that enable the algae to grow. You just need to wash the pitcher more often. Storing it in the refrigerator where it is dark will also help. Algae is airborne and will grow where there is some light, water and nutrients. Hydroponic growers use bubblers to air the nutrient rich water to keep algae from growing and consuming the nutrients from the plants.

What are the greenish dots at the bottom of my BRITA water filter?

I bought a BRITA water filter and it worked fine for like three days, then it started tasting funny so i looked at the filter and there were greenish dots on it. I figured this was the problem, so I threw it out and bought another filter. This one also has those greenish dots. What are those green dots and why does my water taste hilarious?

Is it ok to drink for a water pitcher that has some sort of algae at the bottom?

I have a Brita pitcher that I use for water daily. I have had it for about 6 months, and just recently a green sort have algae as started to show up on the bottom. I do not refrigerate it because I do not have a refrigerator. I wash it out, but about a week later it will start coming back. This does not really bother me, but I was just wondering if this was unhealthy in anyway. It seems that a little green wouldn't hurt.
I have not noticed a change in taste or anything. Also, I refill the water daily, so it is not stagnant. (although i guess there are residual drops left)

If it has not hurt you already, use it. Everyone needs some veggies. If it bothers you, clean it with a bleach solution. About 1 part bleach to 2 parts water.

The pitcher lids and filter housings are made of Polypropylene plastic. The reservoirs and pitchers are made either from NAS (a Styrene based plastic) or SAN (Styrene Acrylonitrile). The soft-touch handles are made from an elastomer called Santoprene (not to be confused with Latex or Neoprene). Our products do not contain any bisphenol A and are all tested by the NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) for safety and wetted contact. Unfortunately the pitcher materials are not recyclable, and therefore do not have a plastic number. Please contact us at any time if you have additional questions. There is no BPA present in any PUR pitchers/dispensers or lids. Pur pitcher/dispenser bodies are manufactured from an acrylic-based polymer classified as recycling code #7. Pur pitcher/dispenser lids are manufactured from polystyrene, code #6. Pur pitcher/dispenser filters are made from polypropylene,...
