hi...my boyfriend and i just got a brita water filter and i know that there are actual little black dots in the top part where the filter is but we've noticed really really small black specs in the water itself. whats the deal? thanks!
It is just little bits of charcoal from the filter. My husband and I have them in ours, too! They won't hurt you, but you can fill the top with water a few times and then dump it out to make them go away.

ok Im maken a home made water filter for tap water..i bought Activated carbon for aquariums, but when i compared it to brita water filter carbon, it seems the brita has much smaller granulated carbon, plus something added in, like tiny white pebbles, i don't know what that is.. i am thinking to use two kinds of carbon, one to get rid of bigger material in water (microscopic size) and one kind to be able to absorb even smaller micron size material... I figure AC (activated carbon) for fish tanks be good to filter larger stuff, but where can i find the kind of AC to absorb real smaller material?
Your method will not work to do the same tasks as one of the original Brita filters.
Besides being of smaller particle size (with a greater surface area), the active carbon in a Brita filter has been silverized. This is not an easy job to do at home. In addition, it contains an Ion Exchange Resin (the tiny white pebbles).

I have a Brita filter attached to the faucet. The spray hose is leaking small drops of water around the seams on the plastic nosel. When I turn on the filter, the pressure builds in the hose and causes it to leak more. I put some duct tape on the seams, but it still leaks out and runs underneath the sink.
1. Should I buy a replacement nosel that is stronger (recommendations)?
2. Is there a way to lower the pressure going to the hose?
I use the filter a lot more than the hose, so I would rather disconnect it than remove the filter.
The best way I have fix this problem is get a whole new sprayer and/or get rid of it if you don't need it.. and cap it off.

A month or so ago, I was drinking a freshly poured glass of water and noticed when I looked into the glass there were these very small egg-like things. Now there is normally some carbon in the water, which I'm used to. However, this was about as small as caviar and opaque in color.
I looked in the pitcher and saw on the bottom MANY of these little egg-like things. So I totally rinsed it out and washed it. I put new water in it and there were no more.
So tonight I just had a glass of water and the same thing happened. What in the world ARE they? I can't find anything on google about it happening to other people! Are they for real eggs? Or is it carbon in another form or what? Because honestly, the thought of drinking fish eggs is repulsive.
Noah you rock my world, thank you!! I feel so much better!
Those are resin beads.
The resin is used to absorb some minerals like calcium, magnesium and iron that when in the water in excess, cause off tastes.
The resin beads are white. If you were to cut open a filter cartridge from just about any brand of water filter you would find a mixture of black carbon and white resin beads.
It sounds like maybe the screen at the bottom of the filter that is supposed to contain the carbon and resin in the cartridge may have become damaged and is allowing some of the contents to fall into the pitcher. I do not know either to be dangerous - but if a good percentage of the beads and carbon has fallen out over time - it is no longer doing as good a job at filtering.
So switch it out with a new one if you are seeing a lot of them.
I hope that explains it.
I live in a small apartment and don't really use a lot of water. I have a Brita that I use for my drinking water that only needs to be filled once a week, I limit my showers (I don't take baths right now) and I also limit my laundry use. Are there any other things I can be doing to help out with our water crisis that I may not be thinking of?? Thanks!

Brita#39;s Journal: Height and Weight Standards
Blogs I've started for my dogs were during a crisis and I felt the need to document happenings. I decided to start Brita's Journal "just because". Just because there is lots to say about her, just because it will be fun to look back and see what she did, when she did it and just because I can start hers at a young age. She is my first dog who was raised in the digital camera age so there are HUNDREDS of unorganized photos and wouldn't this be a good place to keep them!! I thought so!
drinks - Carnival Connections
Hi,
my dh and I are crusing in 12 days.....omg so excited, anyway.....
My dh drinks mostly water and some tea......Is the tea good???Also I do drink soft drinks but try to drink mostly water or tea as well.....We are taking a 12 pack of bottles with us........Would it be better for us if we wanted a few sodas to do the coupons or should we do the drink card????Or should we just buy them when we want???how much do you get on the soda and what is the price?
thanks!
Emilhee, we disembarked from a cruise on Sunday so the prices are still fresh in my mind. Cans of soda are $1.95 plus 15% gratuity from the cabin, in bars and dining room. Soft drink coupons are $7.75 for 4 coupons. Includes gratuity and you get a whole can of soda as well. I found this method very convenient in the dining room. Buying...
