I want the best brand that combines both technologies - RO and carbon filtering - into one apparatus.
Fart underwater and the bubbles will filter the water. Saves lots of money on fancy do-nothing filtration systems.
Nanostructured Carbon Water Filter. It#39;s 350 times higher adsorption effect than GAC \ Granular Activated Carbon.
This is a major rainsoft system with carbon filtration and salt tank. The salt is not supposed to back up in the system and the water is the same as my drinking water and does not taste salty.
maybe time to have ya filters carbon refreshed my friend the sediment is getting through
Price: $45.30
Compatible with all standard RO and filtration systems
NSF Certified
High-quality replacement water filters
I have an 80 gallon Cichild tank I am running a Casscade 700 Model. Ive been doing some reading and have to come to the conclusion that Carbon and Bio Balls, are pretty much a waste of time and money? is this true? what about for something like a 10 gallon tank? What exactly will filter the water without these things in my filter?
Carbon is useless..in fact it creates far more problems than it solves nost notably turring into a phosphate bomb...hooray !! free algae maker.
In the hobby 50 years ago it was thought that water changes were bad and would upset the balance your tank was trying to achieve.
(heeheehee)
But organics would build up and tinge the water a nasty yellow. How to get rid of the tinge without removing water?
Carbon....it did the trick nicely.
Now that we know water changes are a good thing, carbon is now redundant as a water change has the same effect as carbon but alot cheaper.
But carbon kept getting pushed on any sucker that would buy it. Big surprise still here today.
I keep some sweet black diamond carbon around for the odd use but rarley does this stuff every touch one of my tanks.
Say someone you know smokes or had super dirty hands and that person put there hand in the tank......Carbon will bail you out in a hurry.
So keep some around..
Best Carbon in the world for tank use losses its effectiveness in about 4 days. Duration is based on volume..for you 30 days of effective carbon use would be about 2 two litre bottles full a month
thats alot.
Bio-balls...not a big fan but they do work. It seems of the 3 types of beneficial bacteria needed only one really like to reside in bio-balls..hence there ineffectiveness.
Splintered glass by Eheim is the best bio-logical media on the planet hands down. All 3 live there in huge numbers.
sounds like a nice cichlid tank
good luck

This is a large residential location with about 10 people. I am searching for a filtration system for the whole house. tap water comes out at 320ppm, and they would like one filter to use fr everything, pool, showers, dishwasher, lawn... Are there any systems that drop the ppm through a filter without having a waste line? All i am hearing about is carbon filtration or water softening. They dont want water sofeteners.
There is a whole spectrum of water treatment systems around for treating water for a variety of contaminates. Solids, if your are not talking about dissolved solids, are a simple filter, but this is rarely any real problem. If you are talking dissolved solids, TSD, you probably need something more sophisticated. I would send a sample of the water to a lab that does the testing, Google "water testing lab" and see what their results or if it part of a municipal water system get their test results and their recommendations for treatment. Could be activated carbon, simple filter, reverse osmosis, distillation (although not for the volume you are talking) and possibly others or combinations of them. Google "home water treatment" to see what is available. Consumer Reports puts out a good stream of info on this, try your local library to gain access without subscribing.
The current machine has UV and Active Carbon filtration.
The machine is Eureka Forbes' and is a 10 yr old model.
Just in general, should i opt for a repair, or get a new system with 6 step RO purification??
The water used is North Delhi's (India). and is soft water.
All suggestions will be duly appreciated!
I'm not sure about either. If UV treatment creates ozone as a byproduct, that would not be healthy to breath. If not, I would say stay with the carbon.
RO systems do take everything out of the water both good and bad. It leaves you with what some would call hungry water. The water wants to find the mineral balance that it lost. When you drink it, it finds the minerals inside of you and pulls them from you. The water is also acidic. If there is a way in the 6 step process to counter act these problems, it should be ok.
After some research, the system I went with adds energy and minerals back to the water after going through a fine filtration process, the same as a kidney dialysis machine.

For private well owner, the well water is known to have an abundance of dissolved minerals including calcium, magnesium and iron, as well as iron bacteria. This iron bacteria, can form a gel-like slime or biofilm that captures chemicals, minerals and other particles such as sand, clays and silts which will seriously degrade the quality of well water. Improper well design or construction can cause more contamination which can be visually seen. When water appear to be cloudy, it is due the formation of more sediment, usually are the scum formation caused by excessive Calcium or Magnesium salts. Green stains on walls and well fixtures are the indication of high acidity, brown-red stain is showing the high presence of dissolved iron due to corrosion.
Sometimes we do sense some foul smell or bad odor from well water and this is another indicative measure of the quality of water as well. Hydrogen sulfide gas resulted from the use of sulfate in reducing bacteria will give you rotten egg odor, if detergent smell is sensed, it could be the contamination from leakage of septic tank where the chemicals used in treatment will cause foaming in the water. Decaying organic matter like body of animals that is decomposing will emit the earthy or musty odor.

By pulling moisture out of the atmosphere, the DH9 is said to eliminate virtually all contaminants that might otherwise occur in groundwater. The device then further purifies the water to eliminate 99.99% of contaminants. There’s an electrostatic air filter to remove small airborne particles like pollen and dust, a germicidal uV light that destroys bacteria and other microorganisms, a coconut hull filter that eliminates heavy metals, chlorine residuals and mineral salts, and a reverse osmosis (RO) filter to remove any remaining pathogens or fine particles. Unlike other RO filters, where the wastewater is then flushed (so that the user drinks one purified gallon for each six to ten that are wasted), the DH9’s revolutionary RO filter reprocesses it so that no water is lost. A gravity-fed storage tank holds 6.5 gallons that would be accessible even in the event of...
