Non-carbon based life & water replacements could produce/support life elsewhere in our universe. Correct?

Life forms like ours rely on water & oxygen to exist. Life elsewhere may rely on arsenic, chlorine, sulfur (reducing sulfur to hydrogen sulfur), nitrogen, & phosphorus. They have the properties of oxygen.

What about water? There's ammonia, hydrogen fluoride methanol, hydrogen sulfur, hydrogen chloride, and formamide, all could be used in place of water. All the above could produce and support life. They may not look like us, they may rely on one or more of the above in place of what we as humans, use! What do you think? Are there any others?

The consenses says that if there is water, there is a possibility of life. They pretty much have a fluorocarbon based substitute for blood plasma and the ability to carry oxygenated material from the lungs to the cells. All sorts of chemicals are available to mimic certain carbon based chemicals that are necessary to life. The religous zellots go a little nuts on this possibility that there is alternate life or that even earth is the only spot in the universe that life exists. The finding of traces of microbes and things that microbes leave behind in things like meteors and in 1+ mile deep coal deposits are ;making the scientists look a little more carefully at what they consider life. The existance of "prions" (snippets of virus-like partles) that should not be able to duplicate themself but do something is very disturbing in many circles.

Replacement Water Filter?

We have a Kinetico water softener system (Mach 2060s) that uses a 20 inch by 2-1/2 inch filter, but I was wondering if somebody sells a granular activated carbon (GAC) filter that would work in this system, so we can filter out radon. I can't find anything and would appreciate it if anyone had some insight into this... Thank you!

Since radon is a gas you really don't need to do anything to your softener system. I'm sure it filters and cleans your water of solid contaminents.
There are several radon detector kits available that will test the air in your house for any trace of radon. Check your local hardware store or places like Menards or Home Depot.
Your local city offices might also know if there is any info for tour area on radon.

Anything else I need to do other than water changes, filter maintenance and water tests?

I have 2 tanks (soon I hope to be 3) with very happy fish. All I do is:

water changes, -5 gallon for the 26g, and around -1/3 for the 5g (soon I hope to be replaced by a 6g, I don't really have room for a 10g).

I do filter cleaning on the Aquaclears, which amazingly has no carbon but that product Algone (of course it has floss and that bacteria condo, too)

Occasionally I do a water test.

I add salt to the replacement water and Novaqua +.

I add ph 7.0 if nessarry (bad spelling).

Clean the glass of algae and exterior cleaning of everthing.

and of course feed the fish!

Tho it's not in order, thats pretty much all I really do, and my fish are not hating me (yet...). Is there anything else I need to do happy healthy aquarium. I wanna I have what best for my fish!
If there's anything else I'll add it. OH YEAH I forgot to mention theyre are both freshwater tropical tanks (26g with 8 serpae, 5g with male betta)

Sounds like you are doing a fantastic job! Far better than most people, that's for sure. The only change I would recommend is for you to stop using the pH adjustment chemicals. To be totally honest the fish you list aren't picky at all about pH and will do fine in your waters normal pH most likely. The pH adjustment will ony cause the pH to bounce around in your tank and that's worse on the fish than a pH far away from 7.0

can a combustion reaction be a single replacement reaction?

I have C7H16 + 02 yields CO2 + H20 (not balanced), which means I have a compound of C7H16 and oxygen that yields carbon dioxide and water when combined. I know that this is a combustion reaction, but is this also a single replacement reaction? Can one reaction be two types?

This is not a single replacement reaction. This is not a one ion to compound exchange but a braking of a compound to form to other compounds.

What are products of a single replacement reaction between lithium and calcium carbonate? easy 10 points!!!?

19. What are products of a single replacement reaction between lithium and calcium carbonate?

20. What are the products of a double replacement reaction between sodium sulfate and barium acetate?

21 What is untrue about the statement "water and carbon dioxide are products of all combustion reactions"?

19: calcium and lithium carbonate (Li2CO3)

20: sodium acetate and barium sulfate

21: water and carbon dioxide are products of the combustion of carbohydrates, but not of all combustion reactions. For example the combustion of sulfur produces neither water nor carbon dioxide.

  • Chimney Inspections and Cleaning to Reduce Fire and Carbon ...

Wood burning or gas log fireplaces are a common feature in many homes. In the past, fireplaces and wood burning stoves were the only source of heat in the home, whereas today they are primarily used a design feature, which can lead to their operation and maintenance as being an afterthought. Yet today with the rising price of heating oil, natural gas and propane, many residents may be more likely to rely on alternative heat sources like fireplaces and stoves to supplement the heating systems in their homes during the heating season. Flues and vents for other combustion equipment such as boilers, furnaces, and gas or oil-fired hot water heaters should be inspected along with chimneys.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) estimates that chimneys and chimney connectors are the direct cause of nearly 40% of all home heating fires. Failure to clean the chimney is a contributing factor in 64% of these fires. As the use of alternate heat sources grows these figures are likely to rise as well. Clogged chimneys or vents are also a contributing factor in many carbon monoxide poisonings as well.

    6. What Should I Purchase This Item? People generally like to have both clean air circulating in their houses and clean water coming out of their taps…However, these days, it’s getting tougher to ensure that the air & water you are using is completely clean. Therefore, people buy air & water filters to make sure that both the air that they breath, and the water that they use is as close to perfect as possible. Investing in clean air & water is a smart thing to do…
