water distiller carbon filter

Answers

Can the activated carbon used by home brewers (to distill alcohol) be used as a water filter?

I spend $35 to replace the carbon filter on my water filter/pitcher every few months. Would the activated carbon used by home distillers be as good an option to filter my water? The exact brand I'm thinking about is Prestige stone activated carbon (.4-1.4mm), and I would be running it through a coffee filter in the existing housing on my water pitcher.

Can any chemists - amateur or professional - tell me if this would be a good or bad idea?

Not sure but if you want more information on filters look up the website for a company callled CUNO.

Is it all Hype? Or is It true?

I just finish reading an article about this distiller promoted by WaterWise.

It go on and tell you that Waterwise eliminates your water quality concerns by offering purifiers that transform tap water into 100% steam distilled/purified water. More effective and reliable than just a filter, a Waterwise distiller combines distillation with carbon filtration for consistent purity over time.

My question to those out there who use these products is, is it all Hype? Or is It true?

No dude, These machines actually work. It’s the wave of the future. The 4000 Model is the remake of the model I bought in 1999. DudeI totally fell in love with it. It works.

2 years ago I bought a bigger model so I have enough water to cook with etc. When I first bought my first machine back in 1999. I bought a gallon of Poland Spring and distilled it my distiller. The amount of crap the was left in the distiller after the cycle was completed was astonishing. Now I can’t even drink bottle water. You tasted the difference. I take my own water with me wherever I go. If I’m traveling I take my smaller machine with me.

The shower mate works excellent too. You feel the difference on your skin and hair.

Myths about Water Distiller Systems

A steam water distillation system is the one water treatment technology that most completely and consistently removes the widest range of drinking water contaminants , effectively treating your water for more pollutants than any carbon filter or reverse osmosis system. Unlike the previous mentioned filtration systems water distillers operate by removing the water from the impurities rather than the impurities from the water. Below are some common myths about water distiller systems. Truth: There is still some debate among people if inorganic minerals in water, primarily from dissolved rock, can even be absorbed by the human body. We do know that the type and amounts of minerals found in drinking water have a great variance based on location. This in turn makes it an unreliable source of minerals. We know that a well balanced diet can provide you with the needed minerals. The American Medical...

Pure Water Distillers -the Truth Behind the Controversy

Let’s face it. When it comes to water purification, no system can be 100% reliable and certain. Take pure water distillers, for instance. For many years distillation has been a popular choice when it comes to providing clean, safe water for household use. But now that the focus has turned to drinking water that is HEALTHY, as well as clean, distillation has become controversial. But just why would choosing a pure water distiller for your home be a cause for debate? The truth behind the controversy may help to answer that question.

Distillation is a purification process that removes naturally-occurring minerals from water. This de-mineralizing process was highly critical to the success of the photography and printing industries before the development of digital technology.

Since the distillation process was also effective at removing bacteria, pure water distillers for in-home water purification were developed and marketed to the public. Keep in mind that this was at a time when the average consumer was still pretty much in the dark about the growing levels of dangerous chemical toxins in our water supplies.
