I can't stand drinking tap water because of the taste. But sometimes I don't have bottled water with me all the time, so I don't drink any water!
Well, if the taste is funny, it might be a chemical you don't know about that is in the water where you live. Get you water tested to make sure it is safe. Also, your water might have a lot of minerals in it (hard water). This is also not good for your water system, as it can cause mineral buildup in your pipes. So what I would do is get a good-quality water softener/purifier and hopefully your water problems will be gone. As for the second part, not getting enough fluids is bad for your body and can cause weakness, light-headedness, and other random bad stuff. Make sure to drink a lot of fluids, water has no calories so it is a good option, but 100% juice and skim milk are fine options too. Good luck!

I know a fair number of people who will not drink their tap water, and I was on the receiving end of disgust when I filled up my water cup at the tap while visiting friends a few days ago. I am in the northeastern United States, so the tap water here isn't like that from, say, rural Bangladesh or Central America. So, why are they so gung-ho on using only bottled or spring water for drinking?
Usually because of chemicals like chlorine and flouride. Taste is a big factor. I use tap water put through a Brita filter
and when I go back to straight tap water it's like drinking a glass of Clorox Bleach.

I am doing a science project and i have to come up with the disadvantages of drinking tap water. I have found no good sites for this :( I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME!!!
it would be greatly appreciated
i've got some really good ones for you;
Some water is carried in lead pipes from utility companies to homes, which means lead can leach from pipes into the water.
The EPA allows tap water to have 10 parts per billion (ppb) of arsenic in it, although scientists now know there is no safe level of arsenic.
Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products as Pollutants (PPCPs) get introduced into the water supplies by individuals or agribusiness either through sewer lines, regular use of the products, or improper disposal.
According to neurosurgeon, Russell L. Blaylock, in his book Health and Nutrition Secrets That Can Save Your Life, fluoride does not reduce cavities, and it is neurotoxic at .5 parts per million. Furthermore, he claims fluoride causes dental and skeletal fluorosis, damages DNA repair enzymes, and increases your risk for cancer, hypothyroidism, genetic damage, and osteoporosis.
Higher lead levels are allowed in tap water than bottled water because lead pipes usually carry water from utility companies to homes. Tap water lead levels are set at 15 ppb and bottled water is set at 5 ppb.
Potential health affectsfrom microorganisms, disinfectants and their byproducts, inorganic and organic chemicals, and radionuclides include everything from eye/nose irritations to kidney and liver diseases.
Giardia and Cryptosporidium are resistant to chlorine and can make their way into tap water if there are sanitation breakdowns.
There are 170,000 different water suppliers, which means the quality of water in one area can be worse or better than the quality of water in another area.

In a country run by corporation who want money, money, money why the sudden push to get people drinking tap water. I won't drink it. The EPA is useless. Makes me wonder if they have some dark motive like poisoning people.
the water wasn't safe, so they went to bottled, like they did in europe eons ago and now they are worrying about the plastic garbage.
There are no quick fixes and when they stop trying to put bandaids on things then maybe it will stop....
Spending money on giving us clean water seems like the last thing on their list.
I don't drink the water out of the tap either, I have a reverse osmosis system in my home.....
well worth the money and I don't have to deal with the plastic garbage... hello... it is affordable and in the long run pays for itself in no time flat....
The "spa test srip" test for the: total hardness, free chlorine,pH,total alkalinity, cyanuric acid.(TH,FC,pH,TA,CYA.) What should my result be like for safe drinking tap water?
Good question. Test strips are not very precise, but they are very helpful in giving you an idea of your water quality. There's no reason why you can't use test strips to get an idea of what's coming out of your tap.
Total Hardness and Total alkalinity have little to do with safe drinking water. Those parameters are used to measure the chemical "stability" of your water usually in respect to pipe corrosion.
pH should be in the range of 6.5-8.5 based on EPA's secondary contaminant regulations. If it is outside of this range, call your tap water provider for an explanation.
Free chlorine is the most important thing you can test for. Assuming your house doesn't have a treatment system, your tap water should have a free chlorine from 0.2-4.0 mg/l. Let your tap run for 5 minutes before you test this. If you get a number above or below 0.2-4.0mg/l, then be sure to call your water utility!
Cyanuric acid is not approved for use in tap water, and you should not be detecting any CA in your tap.
Sorry for the drawn out answer, but I hope this helps.

Jurong tap water tastes salty, causes dryness, discomfort in ...
“It has been months ago that I discovered that the drinking water tastes very salty.
“The taste is ‘very unusual’. Recently I realised the water cause dryness and discomfort in the throat a few hours after drinking it.
“What had cause the drinking water quality to change at such an unusual way is unknown.
“However, it is causing alarm and worry among residents here in Jurong.
“I have read the news last year that Jurong is one of the estate that has choosen to pump in ‘distilled water’ (recycled water) to residents for consumption.
“I wonder if the quality of water (PH level) is being inspected on a regular basis?
“And is the ‘distilled water’ really ready for human consumption? Guess it might take years to see what the side effects it might cause in humans.
...What#39;s H2O For?: Drinking tap water to save dollars
We've heard the media scares about toxins here and there - in paints, in automobiles, in fuels. And so we avoid these certain products or trends. But here's a new issue: recent studies show toxin levels in plastic products that could potentially harm users. Plastics? Should I feel alarmed? Is this just a scare to con us all into buying aluminum water bottles and boycott Gladware? Well I want to find out. I've begun my blog to get to the bottom of this. Somehow, not striking enough in past years was the idea that investing in one $20-$30 metal water bottle and one tap water purifier for $20 would save families a ton of money. This move would be sensible. Families buying $20 cases of bottled water each week spend over $1,000 every year on water; individuals even occasionally buying water bottles, perhaps, $5-$10 worth each week, spend about $300-$550 each year. The website is below, and I’m appalled. Glass bottles of water, blinged out with Swarovski crystals, costing upwards of $500....
