What do you know about drinking water filtration systems?

Intrested in getting some sort of water filtration system. Looking at those under the sink reverse osmosis systems. Any brands you recommend? How hard is it to install? Is it something I could put on the honey-do list for my husband to install himself?

I install these for a living. they are not that difficult to install . and you can connect them to your refrigerator in most cases also. you can buy one from lowe's or home depot that's sufficient. several water treatment companies also sell them, culligan, aqua pure, kenetico, etc. they will install them for you if you buy theirs. don't buy britta that's a carbon filter it only removes chlorine. Reverse osmosis is the way to go. if you have a metal sink you may need to drill a 1 1/4 inch hole for the faucet. hopefully you don't have granite or marble countertops those are much more difficult to drill. or if you have a soap dispenser you can remove it and put your faucet there. you will need to drill a 3/8" hole high in the drain line under your sink for the r.o waste water to drain to. and you will likely need a 3/8"x3/8"x1/4" T threaded adapter for the feed line. the ones from lowe's and home depot have instructions to install, but i recommend you hire a professional if your husband isn't handy with tools.

i looking for one on-line but i would like someone that has one to recommended me it . especially if it remove most fluoride in the water

I have used many different types of filtration systems, and have sooner or later had problems with them, they are expensive and you must change the cartridge's and that is expensive. I gave up on them. LOL
I bought myself an electric kettle which holds 10 cups. I boil my water twice and empty it into a gallon milk container, or used water bottles, and there you are, it is cheap, works the same way. It just takes a little more effort. Good Luck

I have a Brita water pitcher that I am very happy with. The pitcher wasn't as expensive as many on the market and the filters can be purchased by the ones or more economically in sets of 3.

Does a Brita water filtration pitcher remove parasites from drinking water?

Or does it just remove the chemicals that make the water taste bad? I drink well water, and want to make it safer.
Sorry, I coundn't find an appropriate category.

This site says that the Brita filter removes Cryptosporidium.

    BACKGROUND

There has been a general and rising interest among nation states on environmental issues, most especially environmental protection of water sources since after the United Nation’s Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), which is also called the ‘Earth Summit”, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June 1992. It was the summit that sensitized most national governments, Municipal councils and city or towns worldwide to re-examine issues of the environment in general and water sources in particular along side with those of development. Theoretically this conference expected Nations and their citizens to recognize the rather complimentary relationship which exist between development and the environment. Practically, most nations even began to redefine national security to include the protection of water sources from both internal and external aggression (Chiras, 1994).

Why You Need A Drinking Water Filter System

Searching for a drinking water filtration system these days can be somewhat confusing because of all the different methods and different brands that are out there. You have to be somewhat careful about buying a system because some are very expensive yet inefficient.

The best thing for you to do is to do some research and find out what filtration systems are best for your home. You see if your home water system is hooked up to a public water line then you will not need a filtration system that does reverse osmosis because it will eliminate the minerals that are good for you.

With so many different chemicals out there today it is hard to find a system that gets all of them out without removing the minerals. Some filtering systems only get rid of chlorine, but you need one that gets rid of lead and microscopic parasites as well.

Reducing the chlorine is something that is essential for you to have when you get a water filtration system because when ever you have high levels of chlorine; this usually means that there is cancer causing chemicals in your water.
