(Hint: Where does their water come from? What happens if they run out of water?)
Testing is important for everyone (not just astronauts) because water can carry toxins and bacteria that can cause disease or death.
The water on a spacecraft is from Earth, but is treated and filtered thoroughly.
If they run out of water, they have very few options:
- recover water from the moisture extracted from the air recycling system
- distill water from the fluid wastes collected from...well, you know

My gf is doing an internship at a company who does drug testing. The other day we were sitting around talking and my roomate said he has never failed a drug test and he doesn't drink water or take supplements or anything like that. Is this possible that someone skinny with high metabolism that their body would not hold whatever is tested for?
That doesnt sound right as drugs stay in your blood.

I'm way to anxious to wait to take a test. I know it's better to take one in the morning, but i'm going insane wondering if i could be pregnant. How much does drinking water or some other sort of drink affect a test? Would it be pointless to even take one by forcing myself to pee? Haha i know this is a stupid question, but like i said i'm so curious!
If you drink too many fluids it will dilute your urine and the hormone that gets picked up by an HPT will not be strong enough. If you can't do the test with first morning urine try not going for a couple hours and then test.

Associated Press – Mon Apr 20, 4:45 am ET
U.S. manufacturers, including major drugmakers, have legally released at least 271 million pounds of pharmaceuticals into waterways that often provide drinking water — contamination the federal government has consistently overlooked, according to an Associated Press investigation.
Hundreds of active pharmaceutical ingredients are used in a variety of manufacturing, including drugmaking: For example, lithium is used to make ceramics and treat bipolar disorder; nitroglycerin is a heart drug and also used in explosives; copper shows up in everything from pipes to contraceptives.
Federal and industry officials say they don’t know the extent to which pharmaceuticals are released by U.S. manufacturers because no one tracks them — as drugs. But a close analysis of 20 years of federal records found that, in fact, the government unintentionally keeps data on a few, allowing a glimpse of the pharmaceuticals coming from factories.
