We have very low water pressure in our kitchen sink, which happened right after we put in a new water heater. I was told that there might be calcium deposits on the filter, and I tried to get it off, but I couldn't get it. Is there a trick? Note: there is no other problems with any of the other faucets/toilets in the rest of the house. Thanks
It unscrews, there is a screen or an airator that catches the tiny rocks and minerals. use a finger nail brush. I hated mine I threw it away. If there is hard water deposits or calcium (white ) soak it in vinegar over night. Use a pipe wrench or open your pkiers up all the way and put a towel around the spigot to keep from scratching it

I purchased a PUR faucet mounted filter but it didn't come with an adapter to fit my utility sink. The faucet on the utility sink has threads that are like a garden hose male side. I need an adapter that goes from that to a normal faucet type thread.
I looked on the Home depot web site and couldn't find anything. Please provide a link if you are certain they sell it. Thanks.
You need a female hose by male faucet connector; any home depot or decent hardware store.

i just moved in and a pur water filter is attached to my kitchen faucet. I can only use the watergun(its on every kitchen sink, its the water gun that you can pull up and its connected to a hose.
I tryed taking it off with my hands but it seemed like i almost broke the faucet, so im not going to try anymore.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Mine is a different model, but I assume they all mount the same way.
It just screws on in place of the aerator (the little strainer thing on the bottom of the faucet that the water comes out of). If it doesn't come loose by hand, either (1) it was installed by a gorilla who put it on too tight, (2) it has gotten gunked up and is just plain stuck, or (3) it attaches differently than mine.
If you don't care about saving the Pur filter itself, you could try a pair of pliers (opened to their wider setting) to grab it and get a little more turning power than just by hand. Of couse, this could risk damage to the faucet.
Remember that you are probably looking down on it from above the faucet, so the turning direction to loosen it is the OPPOSITE of what you might be thinking. Remember to visualize the "counterclockwise" direction as through you were looking up from BELOW it.
If the only problem is that you aren't getting water through the filter, maybe you just need to replace the filter cartridge inside it...?? The company's website or tech support phone could tell you how.
Bottom line for my answer: Unless yours is a lot different than mine, it's probably just stuck on really, really tight. (Or you're turning the wrong way.)
Good luck!

This model (4396841) can be used to replace filter models 4396842 and 8212650
Also reduces particulates, lead, and mercury
Does not reduce the amount of fluoride
The system they sell in Sav-On and stores like that all show the filter fitting over a typical kitching sink faucet. Does an adapter or something exist for use in a bathroom?
bathroom fixtures are normally connected to a tank. Water can be stored there for sometime before it is fully used. so the water isnt clean to filter it only.
I am thinking about purchasing a filter for my kitchen sink, but we have well water and I am wondering what would be the best filter for me to purchase? thanks in advance :]
There are so many things to consider.
If you are just concerned with taste and odor, purchase a carbon impregnated filter with a 25 micron particulate built in. This is a typical filter you can get at Sears and such. It it recommended to change at 6 months to a year. I would stay with at least 6 month because after the carbon breaks down in the filter, it becomes the BEST place for bacterial growth and contanimants.
You probably won't find a filter that is anything other than carbon or particulate filtration for just a faucet attachment.
If you really want a better water, buy or rent a reverse osmosis machine. This will take up to 98% of the total dissolved solids out of the water. Within the RO machine is a particulate filter (25micron), carbon absorbtion filter and a reverse osmosis membrane. It is costly to replace the filters though. It is almost best to rent one for about 25 bucks a month. Make sure they take care of EVERYTHING.
There are parameters in which you cannot use an RO. If your well water is extremely hard 20 grains per gallon of calcium and magnesium, the filter won't last very long at all. The other problem would be if it is high in iron content. This would clog quickly.
If you have H2S, hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg odor) no filter will take that out. You have to chlorinate and remove the equestered solids.
You typically can take a water sample to Culligan, Rainsoft or a local water purification company and they can test for:
Hardness
Iron
Chlorine &
SDI (silt density index)
That would be your best start. Otherwise, if you just want to slap a filter on your faucet, 25 micron or less with a carbon absorption filter built in. Keep it changed though!!
Hope this helps, probably too much info, but I was in the business for about 20 years.

...The Real Truth About Under Sink Water Filters | Water Filtration
The value of under sink water filters varies, as do the prices of the units. A high priced undersink water filter isn’t necessarily a better value. It’s the performance of the product, the contaminant reduction that’s most important. Here’s how to find the right purification device for your home.
Generally speaking, under sink water filters cost more than those that sit on the kitchen counter, or attach to the faucet. The primary reason for the increased price is the need for a separate faucet, which most companies include. Normally, it takes the place of your sprayer, but you can drill a new hole, so that you still have the sprayer and the additional faucet. One of the advantages of an undersink water filter is to free up some counter space.
Of all the products on the market, there are really only two highly effective brands. One costs nearly $800. The other costs around $150., but if there is no difference in quality, then why would you pay four times as much?
