I shut off both hot and cold water under the sink and then I left both faucets open to depressurize the system. I have tugged and pulled and twisted the damn thing so hard that I've pulled a muscle in my back. It has not moved a hair - not a micron.
What am I doing wrong?

The worst part is: without filtration, the water may be "safe" but I wouldn't give it to an enemy. Tastes like chlorinated algae.

By the "right way", I mean in the correct direction. Thanks anyway, I bet people do try to unscrew it the wrong way, and hopefully that will help someone who searches for this in the future.
I had the same problem with a Pur faucet attachment. I got one of those tools that unscrews the oil filter or some other part in a car. Its a metal strap on a handle and when you turn it, it tightens itself on the fulter. Or try using a scrap of padded grippy shelf liner and a large jar opener. I buy that liner by the roll at Costco and use it for dozens of things. I you don't have it use a rubber glove or shower mat. If the filter is small enough you can use channel lock pliers. Remember righty tighty, lefty loosey. So turn left to remove it.

well you know that drinking water filter in the kitchen sink next to the standard faucet? i dont know why, but water wont come out. it worked in the morning but when i came home in the evening and tried to get a drink of water, nothing came out. the regular faucet next to it still works fine. i checked under the sink but no pipe/tube seems to be out of place. what could be wrong? i dont want to hire an expensive profesional....
Sounds like a clogged filter. Take the filter out and put a new one in...or at least take the old one out and check to see if something might have plugged the inlet hole. If it fairly new...try shaking it out the inlet hole and putting the filter back in.

My RO system is 9 years old. The storage tank had worked well and provides plenty drinking water at the faucet until recently. It now gives only 5 oz water before the pressure diminish to zero and no water flows out. I have replaced the filter cartridges yearly. What's wrong?
You have a blockage in the filter because some water is slowly getting through. Check ALL the filters
I'm looking for a pitcher water filter that will filter out the most contaminants possible. I was looking to purchase an Aquasana countertop filter for my apartment kitchen sink, but the ridiculous faucet/sprayer combo that's on it won't take a countertop filter. I don't want to install an under-sink model, because it's an apartment and I'm not interested in making that investment for something I move out of.
I'm skeptical of the Brita and PUR pitchers, they don't seem to do much except improve taste. I'm not worried about taste - my water tastes fine - but our city water tests poorly (high levels of chlorine, higher levels of pharmaceuticals and medicines, high in metals).
Any suggestions? It's hard to find unbiased review just looking through websites...
