I opened a Pur water filter replacement, and there was some water inside. Are they usually wet? I remember them being pretty dry and you had to soak them. Do you think moisture got into the package? There was enough water for there to be droplets on the filter and package.

They are supposed to be that moist. If they were bone-dry, it would take longer soaking them to get them ready to use.

Always run 1 jug-ful of water thru and use for watering plants, etc, as there will be carbon 'dust' particles in the first batch.

I still soak the moist filters, but usually only for an hour or two, as opposed to a 'dry' filter, that needs to soak about 12 hours.

I just bought the ultimate filter that you put in the fridge. I put the filter in the hole, but I fill it with water, and no water is coming out of the bottom of the filter to fill the bottom.
Is there something I have to do to the filter?
I no longer have the box nor the instructions.

Follow the instructions that came with the filter.

I'm thinking of buying a Pur water bottle for my grandmother, but I first want to make sure the replacement filters are available in stores. I don't know if there is like a one-size-fits-all filter, or if there are different filters for every product.

....it says it comes with "2 model CRF-950 filters," but I can't find those filters for sale online, which makes me think that they won't be in stores. I've only looked in 2 stores, and the filters I've found either don't match those numbers, or don't say that they fit that particular cooler.
Does anyone have experience with this water bottle or can you tell me if it will be easy to find replacements or how to know if the filters I see in stores will fit this cooler even though it's not listed on the box? thanks
Yes, it's a bottle that is supposed to fit on most coolers. I thought I read somewhere about certain Pur filters being discontinued, so I wanted to see if someone had an opinion on this or some knowledge about it.

you could give her the one that hooks on to the faucet and she could just fill up a water bottle

I just got a Pur water filter for my faucet, but judging from the filter I took out of its package to put in, no, it shouldn't be wet.

I'd take it with your receipt back to where you bought it, and exchange it for a new one.

What water purifier should I buy? I need to buy a water purifier for use on camping trips (usually 1-2 weeks) in the Canadian Wilderness. The water is never polluted, but sometimes muddy/cloudy. Usually have 2 or 3 other people with me, so need to get about 10 litres a day. I'm looking for something I will have to buy only once, so money is not a consideration: 1.) What brand and model would you suggest? Please include details such as whether chemicals are needed / pros and cons / what kind of filter you'd suggest, etc.... 2.) Are Katadyn and PUR the same brand? Can you still find replacement stuff for PUR filters/purifiers? 3.) Do I need a purifier or just a filter to have safe drinking water in north Candian rivers, lakes where the only pollutants would be the occasional motor boat (such as Algonquin Park)? Thanks....I'm getting desperate for info!!!!

PUR was purchased by Katadyn who continue produce the award winning and very popular Hiker model, now called the Katadyn Hiker. The replacement filters still work on the old PUR Hiker. I know because that's what I've used exclusively for the last ten years and have never had any reason to change. Right now I have a new replacement filter in my old Hiker, so I know it works.

Unless you're in a third world country where there's a chance of viruses in the water, you don't need a purifier. Here in the Sierras we just use filters so I would imagine that Canada would be just as clean.
