Okay, so I bought a Pur water filter pitcher so that I would stop buying so much bottled water, with the intention to be more environmentally friendly.
The time just came to replace the cartridge for the first time. What do I with the old cartridge? Can it be recycled at all? I don't like thorwing things in the trash if I don't have to.
better dump it in the back yard of your neighbour at night without making any noice of throwing.

Does the company accept these cartridges to recycle? Or is this another item to add to our overflowing landfills? Appreciate any knowledge or suggestions.
The activated carbon can be considered good for the environment. It's essentially charcoal. As for the plastic outer packaging, you should have considered the environmental impact of that during your purchase decision...
Do you need a whole new system to have the cartridges?
yes.. the others are not compatible with the cartrdiges.
One day when we had a heavy rain, I caught several gallons of the rain water as it was coming through our spouting. Then, I filtered it through my PUR filter cartridge system (the type that filters 1/2 gallon at a time). I've heard that rain water is good for drinking. However, I've heard about acid rain being harmful. I'm just trying to distinguish whether or not acid rain is in a different category than what I call "regular rain water".
The reason I collected rain water for drinking is: When I run my tap water through my PUR filter (which by the way does make my tap water taste better), but I found out that it does not remove the flouride that is put in our drinking water and I've heard that the flouride has been known to cause cancer.
Acid rain occurs mainly around heavily polluted industrial areas, when the rain absorbs the pollution. If you don't live too close to a factory, the water you collect should be safe. You can always test the water's Ph value with some test strips. It should be around 7. Enjoy!

Hi,I can see no reason to save a used water filter.I, the pack rat, would put it in the aluminum wrapper it came in and toss it in the trash. You mean well, but those things are not reusable.I have a PUR water filter on my faucet, which I dispose of the way I explained earlier. So do not feel guilty about throwing it out and think of me as you do it. Good Luck.
Strawberry Flavored water in a pitcher no plastic bottle needed ...
Procter & Gamble PUR Flavor Options Replacement Cartridge Strawberry are easy to use and install flavor "packets' for use in your PUR Flavor Options Water Filter Pitcher. They do not fit in the regular PUR water filter pitchers. The cartridges are small and install quickly for immediate flavoring of your water. You simply open the box, twist off the lid and pop it into the water pitchers compartment on the filtering system. You can drink your water "plain" or you can flavor it with Strawberry or other flavors.
Procter & Gamble PUR Flavor Options Replacement Cartridge Strawberry are sort of hard to find and costs about $8.00. Most PUR water filter flavor option pitchers come with a start package of strawberry and other flavors. There are many more available including raspberry, grape and lemon. You may need to go online to purchase at places like Amazon, or they may be found at Target or Walmart depending on your store.
...how good is a pur water filter compared to an ro filter for ...
Most home filters use a fine screen filter then a activated carbon filter which will take out (toc) or total organic carbons and most suspended solids. it will not take out dissolved minerals or bacteria, which should not be in the city water anyway due to the chlorine. the chlorine will breakdown in sunlight and dissipate in a few days naturally, but check it anyway. the ro passes water across a membrane at high pressure and filters 99.9% of everything out of the water which is called brine and discharges it to a drain leaving a pure water for home use.
