Does anyone who owns a PUR filter system run into this problem before? And how did you get the light to go back on?
I had a pur water filter and found when the replacement cartridge needed replaced that a new filter was almost as much as the whole unit itself..and each filter only treats 200 gallons of water..so I changed brands and ordered one from the link below..You get two replacement cartridges for 13.00 that treat 2,000 gallons apiece versus 200 gallons like pur does..and one replacement cartridge for a pur is 22.00....You can treat 3,800 more gallons of water for 9.00 less with this unit..I have had it over a year and very pleased with it

I have a Pur pitcher. How do I know when to change the filter?
The website says...
"All PUR filters come with a built-in Automatic Safety Monitor™ gauge so that you'll know
(and even in advance) when it's time to change the filter."
This tells me nothing.
When I pour water, the light blinks. Does this mean its time to change the filter, or do I change it when the light stays on even when not pouring?
Thanks.
The ligght would stay red when it's really time to change how ever I would go ahead and change now..........
I just bought and got a PUR dispenser. It says that I need to change the filter once every 6 weeks...and that would be on Feb 14. But right now it is not filtering. Why isn't it filtering? I never use hot water with it. Is it possible my water is actually SO "dirty" that the filter is gone already. It doesn't have the little light on it to tell me. Is there some way I can check it or should I just take it apart and run some cold water through it?
Some water contains more minerals than others. the filter is probably clogged up. Most filters are disposable so just change it out.
Well I bought a pur filter about 3 months ago and its been working great. The light filter was still green then out of nowhere it just stopped filtering. The faucet works normally and as soon as I flip the switch the water just stops and doesnt come out either side. Nor does the green light blink as it usually does. Do I need to change the filter even though the light is still green? Im having trouble unscrewing the cap so I would have to go buy one of those wrenches. Is there an easier fix?
Make sure the filter housing is dry (get a better grip). You may have to take it off the faucet to get a better grip. Unscrew the housing front cap. There may be dirt blocking the flow or hard water build-up.
Once you take everything apart, brush the openings lightly with a stiff toothbrush/vegetable brush, soft scrub sponge. Wipe everything down and put it back together. See if the water will run through it. You may have to replace the filter. Depending on how much you drink (and how bad the water in your area is), it may have gotten clogged sooner than the indicator was set for.
Do water filters make city water taste better?
I recently moved to the city from a very rural town. After drinking well water all my life, city water is like drinking out of a swimming pool. I’ve tried boiling it and that doesn’t help. Do water filters like Brita, PUR, etc help at all or are they a waste of money? Is there anything else I can try short of buying bottled water?
Yes they take the chlorine taste out so it stops tasting like swimming pool water, along with other sediments and minerals. I have a simple kitchen faucet Teledyne Water Pik filter that I installed myself. Easy to install, easy to use, and the replacement filters are reasonable. Get one at Ace Hardware or Walmart.
Be careful buying bottled water. An expose recently revealed that many of them are really no better than tapwater.
Why Should One Have A Brita Water Filter
There are a lot of different reasons as to why you would want to get a Brita water filter system. Of course one of the most obvious reasons would be because you can taste chlorine or other chemicals in your water and you want to stop this from happening. You don’t want to have a bad taste in your mouth when you want a glass of cold, refreshing water, and when you have a Brita water filter you know that you are going to get the most delicious tasting water every time.
Another great benefit of the Brita water filter is that you get lots of convenience. Instead of having to run out to the store to get a bottle of water every time you are in the mood, you just have to turn on your tap or use your Brita water filter jug, and you can get clean, pure water every time.
The best tasting water is always available in the fridge of a person.
