I bought a pur water filter for my faucet about a year ago and there is a crack in it. I've tried removing it with but it won't move. I have even tried pliers. Any advice on how ot remove it.
it sounds like your scared of breaking something with pliers. take a good pair of channel locks and put some real force on it. remember to turn counter clockwise ( not from the top). if your pliers slip, try a small pipe wrench. it will come off.

I installed a pur water filter to my faucet last week. Water started squirting from the top because it wasn't twisted on correctly. I tried to use a locking pliers to twist the top off but it didn't twist and the the plastic started scraping off. Anybody have any ideas on how I should remove it?
the bottom screws off, use a strap wrench on the housing.
there are many types though. is this in-line or mounts on the end of your faucet in place of the aerator?

I opened a Pur water filter replacement, and there was some water inside. Are they usually wet? I remember them being pretty dry and you had to soak them. Do you think moisture got into the package? There was enough water for there to be droplets on the filter and package.
They are supposed to be that moist. If they were bone-dry, it would take longer soaking them to get them ready to use.
Always run 1 jug-ful of water thru and use for watering plants, etc, as there will be carbon 'dust' particles in the first batch.
I still soak the moist filters, but usually only for an hour or two, as opposed to a 'dry' filter, that needs to soak about 12 hours.
I'm wondering if the water filter really is doing it's job. I can kinda feel my left kidney and am imagining build-up from under-filtered water running through it. Ever heard of people getting kidney stones from drinking tap water?
i got a pur water filter to attach to my kitchen faucet and i wasnt impressed with it all! im sure it helped some but not enough for me to be pleased with it! maybe its just me! but i wouldnt recommend them personally.

So then Craig and I moved here, and we purchased a PUR water filter for the sink. It worked great, no issues at all. It just seems to cost a lot to replace the filters. We had it on our kitchen sink, and used it for any amount of cooking, drinking etc. Then one of the plastic pieces seemed to get corroded and the threading became stripped. That was that for PUR.
So I had hear of Aquasana, and their filtering shower heads. So I went their to browse their home water filters. And purchased a Counter Top Water Filter. The AQ-4000 to be exact. Craig installed it, with no major issues, and it maybe took him 30 minutes. We have fresh flowing water at any time, for food, the dogs, drinks etc. We need to replace the filter, only every 6 months, or every 500 gallons of water. I tend to think we could go longer then that, as it is just the two of us. But the filters are only $47.99. Aquasana has figured it out, that basically it will cost $8 a month for all the fresh water you need. That is pretty much 1 1/2 cases of water, right? If you get it on sale. =)
