Is reverse osmosis and filtration the same? Does the difference lie in that reverse osmosis has tinier pores?

I don't know the difference between reverse osmosis and filtration.

Please help me!

Reverse osmosis is a filtration process typically used for water. It works by using pressure to force a solution through a membrane, retaining the solute on one side and allowing the pure solvent to pass to the other side. This is the reverse of the normal osmosis process, which is the natural movement of solvent from an area of low solute concentration, through a membrane, to an area of high solute concentration when no external pressure is applied.
So reverse osmosis is a type of filtration. It is the finest filtration you can get in order to have the purest substance. It works better than regular filtration

If you have a reverse osmosis water filtration system, can you answer this question?

We just got a reverse osmosis water filtration system. Everytime we get a glass of water, it gurgles for about 30 min after wards. Is this normal?

Yes. Reverse Osmosis works by using water pressure to force water through a semi permeable membrane as it does this the particles that are to large to go through go into the waste water and down the drain. Your system is refilling the reservoir after you empty some out.

Does a GE Reverse Osmosis Filtration System GXRM10GBL filter out E Coli & Coliform?

we're trying to figure this out because we have a boil water advisory, should we trust the water from the filtration system or not?

No. Even if you have an ultraviolet light source somewhere in the system, (that will help kill some of the bacteria) you're better off boiling the water if under advisory. Most filtration systems don't have filters small enough to catch coliform or e coli - Better safe than sorry and all that

not for the whole house, just under sink. Anyone have one that they are really happy with?

GE reverse osmosis (under the sink) filtration systems are sold at Home Depot. You can research them online at www.homedepot.com.

I have a friend of mine who purchased one a year ago he has been happy with it. It was around $170 or something like that.

Do reverse osmosis water filtration systems use a lot of electricity?
AQUAQUEEN® Mineral Water by R.O.Tack Water Technology

I was thinking about getting a reverse osmosis water filter for my condo. I was told that RO systems use a lot of electricity. From my understanding, RO systems use water pressure to pull the water through the filter membrane.

Do RO filters systems use a lot of electricity to pump the water through the filter membrane? Or is it just the pressure from the tap?

Reverse osmosis systems don't use any electricity if you're on municipal water - it's just the pressure from the tap.

If you have a well and pump, that's a different story.

Reverse osmosis does waste a lot of water, perhaps that's what you were reading. You might get as little as one gallon of pure water out of 10 gallons of tap water, the rest goes down the drain.

  • ::News4u:: » Indian tech institute will provide sweet water to Afghan

News4u-News Desk- Salil- Ahmadabad, An indigenous desalination technology developed by a central institute here, is to be used for providing sweet drinking water to about 50,000 people in Afghanistan by November this year.

The Reverse Osmosis (RO) desalination plant technology has been developed by the Central Salt and Marine Chemical Research Institute.

“Based on our indigenous membrane technology, 11 RO Desalination plant developed by the institute have been commissioned in Afghanistan so far,” Director of Bhavnagar based CSMCRI, Pushpito K Ghosh told PTI.

Reverse Osmosis generally refers to a kind of filtration process which makes use of pressure to purify a solution through a memberane.

The RO de-salination plant developed by CSMCRI has the capability to convert saline water into sweet drinking water.

“The RO plants convert underground saline water into sweet drinking water and presently catering to population of over 33,000 in Afghanistan,” he added.

Water, that magical substance from which all life springs forth is essential to the very existence of every life form on earth. Water constitutes 70 percent of human body and water borne diseases account for 80 percent of all the diseases. Increasing pollution levels in the city, little control on ground water discharges by the industry and limited municipal water supplies are making conventional forms of water the need for contemporary Reverse Osmosis (RO) water purifying systems comes in.

RO is the finest water filtration method known. This process will allow the removal of particles as small as ions from a solution. It is used to purify water and remove salts and other impurities in order to improve the color, taste or properties of the fluid. RO uses a membrane that is semi-permeable, allowing the fluid that is being purified to pass through it, while rejecting other ions and contaminants from passing. This technology uses a process known as cross flow to allow the RO membrane to continually clean itself.
