Reverse osmosis is just a name for "forcing" osmosis to happen by adjusting the pressure on one side of the transfer. Either by increasing pressure on the supply side, or decreasing it on the output. A good system will involve a small pump and a resivoir. The pump drops pressure on the demand side, and draws the filtered water into the resivoir, which is kept under pressure so that you'll have pressure at the tap.
Installation will involve running the supply line to the filter, a line from the filter to the pump, from the pump to the resivoir, and from the resivoir to the tap. And running an electrical line to the pump.
Some units combine some of these functions, and you may just have to run a line in, a line out, and plug it in.
There are also companies that offer whole house filtration systems, where the water is filtered on the line into the house, so all the water you use is purified.

I could not tell the brand name of that filter. If you can confirm that the filter is certified by NSF, then it should be okay. NSF test and certify water filters to ensure that they can do the jobs the manufacturers claim they can do.
If it's not certified either by NSF or Water Quality Association, I will not buy it even if it's cheap.

I am planning to soften my water for all round benifit in the home.
I also want to purify my drinking water through a reverse osmosis system.
Can these 2 things be used together or can only 1 system be used?
If they can be used together can a reverse osmosis system purify softened water safely for drinking?
Short answer is Yes
You can use the RO to filter the softened water. A decent RO system will also have pre and post filters.
A 5 to 10 micron prefilter protects the RO filter membrane from being plugged up by particulate matter in the water. An activated carbon post filter improves taste and polishes the RO water.
Treated RO water is then stored in a small accumulator (pressure tank with a bladder in it) .
Treating water with an RO filter tacks some time and uses water in roughly a 5:1 ratio. Send 5 gallons of water to the RO to get 1 gallon of treated water the remaining water is then sent to a drain.
As a result you use RO water for drinking and maybe supplying water to an Ice maker. The unit will treat a gallon or two and store it for use once the accumulator is topped off the RO unit stops treating water. So no water is used when the RO is in standby.
In my home I have a reverse osmosis system under the sink. It has been there since I moved in, and it has no pressure when filling a glass, and gives me about one litre of water until it runs out, and then no water will come out for quite a while. What it wrong with it?
You do need to change your filters.
Your particulate filters are cheap.
The carbon filter, if your particular system uses one is cheap.
The membrane filter is about 40 bucks average.
But you have to have it.
The membrane is actually to one giving you the problem.
After you change filters, if the problem is still there there, you bladder in the reserve tank has a hole in it.
That's an easy troubleshoot.
Just push the air valve stem in and see if water comes out.
If air comes out, it's good and will have to be brought back up to 15lbs air pressure.
If you don't have a compressor, you can use a tire pump and tire pressure gauge easily to do that.
Don't do that first though. Go ahead and get your filters. You are needing those anyway.
