the rural water pump at home keeps triping off with out warning and I am completly with out water until the resevor refills. Can anyone tell me why this happens? It has a reverse osmosis system/
There's probably a short or bad ground somewhere in the wiring. You'll either have to get someone t fix it or get a new one. Try looking for a manual or spec sheet for your pump.

We recently installed an RO from Menards. We live on a farm and I know we have a high concentration of TDS. We have naturally soft water but it is very salty. We are unable to get much water from our RO. After filling all night we went to dump the water out of the holding tank per instructions to allow it to refill. After 6hrs we had about 3 cups of water? We do have adequete water pressure but I assume because of the high TDS we may need a booster pump anyway to improve performance...correct?
My question is, where do you go to find a booster pump? Menards did not have one. How do I know I have the right pump for our system...it all seems foreign to me. Any other info you can give me to help would be greatly appreciated as well

I was thinking about getting a reverse osmosis water filter for my condo. I was told that RO systems use a lot of electricity. From my understanding, RO systems use water pressure to pull the water through the filter membrane.
Do RO filters systems use a lot of electricity to pump the water through the filter membrane? Or is it just the pressure from the tap?
Reverse osmosis systems don't use any electricity if you're on municipal water - it's just the pressure from the tap.
If you have a well and pump, that's a different story.
Reverse osmosis does waste a lot of water, perhaps that's what you were reading. You might get as little as one gallon of pure water out of 10 gallons of tap water, the rest goes down the drain.

Do they make reverse osmosis units that do not have to be installed into my existing home plumbing system? I am wanting one for my saltwater tank, so I don't need anything that is permanent. I have never used or dealt with one of these before so I am clueless. Do they make a kind that I can pour the water into it and the unit purifies it and pumps it into a container? As many details as possible would be great. Thanks in advance.
All decent RO units can be run off an outside garden tap with a 1/2 inch screw thread type end using the necessary adapter. The unit can be connected, used and then disconnected and stored till the next time. Never drain the RO unit of water if your are storing it like this as the membrane will dry out.
FYI RO units are pressurized systems so you will not find one that you can simply pour water into...the only things like that are DI resin type cartridges that connect to sink taps, they tend to be very inefficient and costly to run as the resin exhausts quite rapidly.
