Do they make reverse osmosis units that do not have to be installed into my existing home plumbing system? I am wanting one for my saltwater tank, so I don't need anything that is permanent. I have never used or dealt with one of these before so I am clueless. Do they make a kind that I can pour the water into it and the unit purifies it and pumps it into a container? As many details as possible would be great. Thanks in advance.
All decent RO units can be run off an outside garden tap with a 1/2 inch screw thread type end using the necessary adapter. The unit can be connected, used and then disconnected and stored till the next time. Never drain the RO unit of water if your are storing it like this as the membrane will dry out.
FYI RO units are pressurized systems so you will not find one that you can simply pour water into...the only things like that are DI resin type cartridges that connect to sink taps, they tend to be very inefficient and costly to run as the resin exhausts quite rapidly.

It forces the water to go against the solute concentration gradient. So, this will force water from areas of high solute concentration to areas of low solute concentration. This makes sense in purifying water since you do not want to be drinking any type of solute, just the water. Essentially, you are forcing the water away from the solutes (things you do not want to drink) by forcing it to go against its concentration gradient (thus the term Reverse osmosis).

I purchased a used kent marine reverse osmosis unit. How would I use it it has a blue tube and an orange tube. There both dripping water, do they both go inside the aquarium or just 1? And wich one would that be?
The blue one is the answer but i wouldn't use it direct to the tank as you need to either mix some normal water to add minerals back into the water or add minerals to the water, some of the minerals stabilize the Ph without them slightest nudge will cause a Ph crash.
I have just brought a reverse osmosis unit from a guy on ebay, im just wondering what is wrong with the so called "waste" water that comes out of the unit????? it has been running for about 2 hrs and it has produced about 3 buckets of waste water and about 1 bucket of pure water.
Reverse osmosis units only produce a small amount of product water (the good stuff) out of the amount of water that goes into the unit. For example for every five gallons of water that is passed through the unit, you will only get about a gallon of pure water, the other four gallons is waste that shouldn't be used in an aquarium. However it would be perfect for watering plants or washing the car.

All villages in certain districts of Punjab that are affected by salinity in water will have reverse osmosis (RO) plants within 21 months to provide clean water to villagers, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said Thursday.
The districts of Ferozepur, Bathinda, Faridkot, Mansa and Muktsar in south-west Punjab are known as the cancer belt of the state. Much of this is attributed to contaminated water.
Sukhbir Singh Badal Thursday directed water supply and sanitation department officials to examine the quality of water in these areas and find if there was any linkage of the rising incidence of cancer with the quality of ground water in this region.
Badal said that technology should be used to ensure clean, potable water to residents of the "difficult" villages.
