Is Reverse Osmosis water good for your skin or is other water filtration types better for your skin? If you do drink 8 glasses of RO water, will it do you the same good as the recommended drinking 8 glasses of any water?

Reverse osmosis is just a common purification technique. It uses water pressure to separate brackish water into pure water without a mineral content that is drinkable and a very salty remainder that is discarded.

After the process it is just plain clean water. Drinking it is just as good as drinking any other potable water. It has no magic properties or special hazards (even if you read some misinformation in WIKIPEDIA).

I have been working in the plumbing and heating business for 35 years, and have worked in hospitals and dyalisys units. Reverse osmosis water is only transported in plastic pipe, because it "eats" copper, galvonized , iron, or even stainless pipe. My question is, if it has such an affinity to metals, wouldn't it have the same effect on your body? Deplete minerals as opposed to providing them?

If you drink the extremely purified stuff, such as used in semiconductor manufacturing, you get nauseated. And it tastes vile! Try a swig, you'll hate it.

It's used in dialysis because they have to tightly control the mineral content of the water used.

The ordinary R-O units in homes don't take that much out, and are more for flavor than purity.

Can I install reverse osmosis water filter without using faucet comes with it?

I want to get a RO filter for my ice maker. I do want want to dig a hole on my countertop or the sink (or using any existing holes). Is it possible to connect the "tubing to faucet" directly to the ice maker faucet? I only want to use drink water from the ice maker faucet.

Is this possible? Did anyone have experience with this?

Yes this can be done. I do this on a regular basis. Be sure to use plastic tubing from the R/O unit to the ice maker. R/O water is very aggressive to copper.

We just got a reverse osmosis water filtration system. Everytime we get a glass of water, it gurgles for about 30 min after wards. Is this normal?

Yes. Reverse Osmosis works by using water pressure to force water through a semi permeable membrane as it does this the particles that are to large to go through go into the waste water and down the drain. Your system is refilling the reservoir after you empty some out.

I was thinking about getting a reverse osmosis water filter for my condo. I was told that RO systems use a lot of electricity. From my understanding, RO systems use water pressure to pull the water through the filter membrane.

Do RO filters systems use a lot of electricity to pump the water through the filter membrane? Or is it just the pressure from the tap?

Reverse osmosis systems don't use any electricity if you're on municipal water - it's just the pressure from the tap.

If you have a well and pump, that's a different story.

Reverse osmosis does waste a lot of water, perhaps that's what you were reading. You might get as little as one gallon of pure water out of 10 gallons of tap water, the rest goes down the drain.
