I'm looking to get an under sink RO filter but I'm not sure which to go with (for the best price).
A 3 to 5 gallon reservoir is plenty, the water is only for drinking or coffee. I don't need 100 GPD or anything like that.
I got he hydrotech RO system http://www.hydrotechwater.com/Reverse%20 Osmosis/1240_e_series.htm
I put it by the washing machine and run a hose to the sink and one hose to the refrigerator. The water store I got it from had all the connections I needed and I still have room under my sink and it is a little cleaner feeling when I drink because under the sink is kind of dirty feeling to me.
I put two tanks on the system because in the summer we drink a lot of water and the system takes I think 6 hours to make one gallon of water so instead of 3 gallons I have 6. The one reason I put it by the clothes washer is 1) it is on the other side of the wall as the refrigerator. 2) because it feels cleaner to me and 3) because these systems have a waist water pipe that needs to be put into a drain pipe so I just run that hose right into the washer drain pipe instead of monkeying with the sink drain pipe.
I hope I was helpful. have a great day

My RO system is 9 years old. The storage tank had worked well and provides plenty drinking water at the faucet until recently. It now gives only 5 oz water before the pressure diminish to zero and no water flows out. I have replaced the filter cartridges yearly. What's wrong?
You have a blockage in the filter because some water is slowly getting through. Check ALL the filters

I have very hard water where I live & I was wondering if it would be worth it to invest in a whole house water filtration system or if I should just get an under sink reverse osmosis system w/ the storage tank for drinking water?
I would be more inclined to get the whole house water filtration system if I could determine how beneficial it is for other things...
Is this water a lot better for your skin?
What about when washing your clothes? Does hard water make this more harsh or turn whites dingy?
What is the difference between a Water Softener and this type of system?
a water filter generally does nothing more than filter out sediment or remove some basics taste and odor problems, you need a water treatment of sorts to correct the hardness of the water, You need to have your water tested by an independent lab to see what you hardness , ph etc is . The grains of hardness would determine the size and price of equipment that you would need to correct the water .

Once water has been filtered, inert and desirable minerals like magnesium, potassium, chlorides, and fluoride are left behind
Quickly attaches to faucet, and conversion kits are available (sold separately) to mount under the sink
Easily replaced filter produces approximately 1,500 gallons of water before it needs replacing, or enough to last one year for a family of four

This is a two-chamber, under-sink, Reverse Osmosis water filtration system that is under a year old. The two water filters and the water bladder were replaced by the service agent only 3 months ago. Out of nowhere, the amount of filtered water this system generated started slowing to a crawl to where it is not very useful and we are having to buy bottled water in the interim which defeats the purpose of having a home water filtration system.
I know the filters have to be replaced periodically but we have run on previous filters for a lot longer than 3 months in the past with no interruption or slow down of water flow. Running too long on the same filter will degrade the water taste and quality, but thus far, it has never slowed the water output or flow.
Besides calling the service agent to come charge a premium and try to sell us overpriced water filters we may not need, I am availing Yahoo! Answers in hope someone may have a different idea as to what might be going on here. I've checked the turn valves and all seem to be in the fully open position. There is just not enough production of filtered water now. Could it be a clog? Or is this what NORMALLY happens when it is time to change the filters?
It's possible the current filters got fouled somehow. Take the filter info to your nearest home improvement store and buy the filters yourself. It really is an easy fix for someone with a brain...just don't let your husband do it (*grins*)

A Different Type of Filter: Under Sink Reverse Osmosis Water Filter
The under sink reverse osmosis water filter is a unique way of filtering the tap water in the home. The system hooks into the home much the same way as the other home water filters that are designed to go under the sink. The under sink reverse osmosis water filter often has a separate faucet that can be installed through the existing sprayer hole in the sink so that the installation is not complex. In addition, the under sink reverse osmosis water filter can be installed by almost any consumer since they have detailed instructions to do so and require only basic tools in most cases.
Choosing Reverse OsmosisOther under sink water filters use carbon and other materials to filter out the contaminates in the water. Since this is the case, the filters get dirty and need to be changed within six months if not sooner. Most under sink water filter systems will filter about five hundred gallons of water before needing to be changed. Six months is a long time and it makes the system very cost effective, so that the consumer is only paying about five to six dollars per month to use it.
...Under the Sink Water Filtration Systems
An effective way to ensure that your family is receiving filtered, purified water directly from the tap is by installing an under the sink filtration system. These systems are similar to countertop or faucet filters, but is located under the sink and directly married with your existing plumbing system. An under the sink filtration system can provide clean water straight from the tap, all while reducing countertop or sink clutter.
You can install a under sink filtration system anywhere in your home that has running water. While your kitchen is probably the number one area for receiving drinking water, take into account that you also ingest water from the bathroom. Even if you use your bathroom sink just for brushing your teeth, you still are ingesting water into your body. To reduce your intake of harmful chemicals and minerals, install an under the sink filtration system here as well.
