Why is my inground pool water clear only when the filter is not running?
A blast of the water-005

I keep my chemical levels in good range everyday. When the pool filter (cartridge) is running, the water is blue but not clear (cannot see the bottom). When I turn off the filter and leave it off for a couple of days or more, the water stays blue and I can see the whole bottom of the pool. So I just turn filter on only when I need to add chlorine. Then water isn't clear after that. Do I need to buy new cartridges?

probably dirt dust.ect it blows out into the pool and makes it dirty.Just change the filter

What is the best way to keep my pool water sparkling crystal clear?
A blast of the water-016

I have a 18 ft. x 4 ft. pop-up pool. We put it up this weekend. I added 1/5 of a gallon of algaecide as preventative maintenance, added 1 inch chlorine tablets in the cartridge filter, and I also used one packet of shock treatment to prepare the water. Are these amounts enough for a pool of this size? I tested the pH and I think I have to raise it. Any other preventative maintenance tips? Last year I had a heck of a time keeping it clear and want to make sure the pool doesn't turn out like that again. Thanks for your help.

Well first off you need to get exact readings of your water chemistry. Without accurate readings it's a guessing game. You can take a sample of the water down to your local pool store and they will test it for you, then post the results back here.

Unfortunately the way your question there isn't enough information to make a 100% accurate suggestion on what you need to do to the pool.

foggy water wont clear up, what's wrong?
A blast of the water-010

my small goldfish just died yesterday, but his water was perfectly clear, all water test results were normal. today i woke up and the water looked like the setting of a horror film, and it's still pretty foggy now. after i noticed the cloudiness i: did a 50% water change, de-chlorinated the entire tank, added accu-clear, replaced the filter cartridge, cleaned out the filter parts individually, and let it run for about two hours. but the water is still foggy! i want to be putting a black moor in there this weekend but im not sure what killed my other fish. all of the nitires and nitrates were good, as well as the ph and hardness and the kh. could it be ammonia, i dont really know how i would test for that, but i really doubt it was because all other the tests were fine? please help, any reason for the sudden cloudiness? is it safe to put in a black moor?

your dead fish is haunting the tank. making it forever cloudy so no fish will ever live in there again

Above ground pool cartridge filter returning green water???
A blast of the water-018

When I hook up the vacuum on my Intex above ground pool, as i'm trying to vacuum the algae from the bottom, it is just as quickly being sent back in through the return. I have replaced that filter cartridge, and it still does this. Before I can get half wat through vacuuming it, the water is too cloudy to see the bottom. Before I start vacuuming, the water is clear and all the green/brown is on the bottom. Why is the green crud coming back in through the return?
This is an above ground pool with a paper filter cartridge. There is no option on the pump to switch to "waste" and I put shock it in the pool once a week and change the filter once a week.
And since this is a pump with a filter cartridge, not a sand filter, there is no backwash option.

Just a suggestion. Walmart sells a $20 vacuum that hooks up to your water hose. It works awsome. They also sell this stuff called Shock It. Works good.

Overnight jump in PH and TA • Chemistry 201 • Trouble Free Pool

After a calm pool season we now have a new problem. I test every day and results have been good. Today all of a sudden The PH is off the charts and the Ta regesters about 130. No chems have been added in the last two days other than the 3 inch pucks in two skimmers. I regularly add 10 minutes of water 3 times a day (I tested this too, PH was 6.8). I do keep the chlorine up by adding liquid 12% on occasion. The water appears slighly cloudy but not terribly. Pump pressure is good and stable. As an aside, the weather has been hot and humid the last three days. How can this happen and what do I do about it? I read the pool school chapter but to me the cause is unclear.
