Walmart built a new supercenter near my home last year. The cashiers and customer service people were so nice when it first opened. Now, they are just like the other Walmart stores. Today, I was returning an item that I didn't like. I got a free sample of a vitamin product and it tasted like aspirin when you took it. Since I didn't want the product I decided to return it to the store. The customer service person almost bit my head off over a coupon. I bought the item more than a month ago and forgot what was on the receipt. I know I bought a water filter cartridge and used a coupon for it since it was kind of expensive. There was only one coupon on the receipt that total amount of the sale was over $100. The cashier said that I had used the coupon for the vitamins. So she deducted the coupon off of the return amount. I thought it was kind of rude that she basically cheated me out of the money. I don't plan on going to Walmart to do my shopping for a while. I was an avid Target or Kmart shopper and I guess I'll be returning there. I liked the convenience of having the store near my home. But, I will not patronize a store that is mean to their employees and in turn the employees are mean to customers. Where is their heads at in this economy? I'll save my money and go elsewhere.
Perhaps it has something to do with the way they are treated, both by the company and its customers. I'm not saying being rude is the right thing to do but it does help explain some things.
It doesn't sound like she cheated you out of any money. Whether she credited amount of filter or the vitamins doesn't really matter - the coupon amount was the same either way and the same amount was deducted from the original cost. The cashier was working with the information she had in hand: total cost of items minus coupon amount minus cost of items you kept = ultimate refund.
The PUR water filter, filters the water, but the seals leak after changing one or two elements. I Wrote an email to the company, had no response ...
I currently have a large 55 Gallon Tank with two Tetra 30-60 Power Filters. I have large fish (Oscar & Pacu) and a Red Tail Shark and 2 Plecos. I change my filters every 2 weeks (that would be a total of 4 filter cartridges since each filter holds two catridges). I also have to do a 50% water change EVERY WEEK since I have large fish in my tank. They are fed twice a day (once when I wake up and then again at night when I get home from work) but they aren't given a large amount of food. I use my water conditioner as directed, I also add salt to my water as well. And yet, my water will stay clear for a few days after the water change, but then it rapidly turns green within the week, and it's hard to see my fish in the tank! I heard that I need to leave the light off for a few days. Will this work? I only have the tank lights on during the day while I'm at work, and then I turn them off before bed. Even with that said, the lights are on more than they are off.
My filter system has two types of cartridges one is a BIO filter that I'm not supposed to replace and then the carbon filters that I replace every two weeks. Does this make any difference??
Well, your tank is WAY overstocked. Oscars need a minimum of 60 gallons of water each. Pacus can reach 3 feet and need THOUSANDS of gallons of water.
Plecos are 2 foot fish and should not be kept in anything smaller than 100 gallons. Your red-tail shark will likely be eaten by the Oscar eventually, as oscars grow up to be voracious, aggressive fish.
Please consider properly stocking your tank. You should return to the petstore or sell your oscar, pacu and plecos - or get a bigger tank for them - and stock your tank around the red-tail shark.
It is this overcrowding that is causing your green water. Green water, which is a single-celled algae, needs two things to grow: light, and nutrients.
Reduce your photoperiod - invest in a 5$ timer and set your lights to be on for 10 hours per day.
However, on my tanks I do the same as you (turn on the tanks in the morning and turn them off before bed) and do not have an algae problem. The main issue with your tank is the overcrowding.
Your fish are producing huge amounts of ammonia, which is feeding the bacterial colonies.
If you want a healthy tank, you MUST either get a bigger one, or get rid of more of your fish, because those fish can NOT survive and be healthy in a tank that small.
In the meantime, do 40% water changes, twice a week, to keep ammonia levels down. When you have a properly stocked tank, you can do 20-30% once a week.
A blackout, as described by judy_r8 (keep your tank in total darkness) will kill the algae for a while, but you need to fix the root of the problem ,or the algae will just come back in a couple weeks.

Ok as you may know from my last question, I am getting ready to get a used 40 gallon corner tank. What should my procedure be as far as setting it up?
Im thinking ill get it home, filll it up in the driveway, let it sit a day, if no leaks ill drain then the next day ill clean it and then the day after that I can set it up(with rinsed gravel and declor water) Then put the filter cartridge from the established ten gal into the hob filter of the 40, wait a week, add 2 fish, keep an eye on water params
So my question is for cleaning.......how much bleach then how much xtra declor should I add after
anything else im forgetting?
I said I will wait a week then im going to do a quiet fish cycle with plants
thats not right away......
and a duck???what?
I clean my used tanks with a 8-10% bleach solution (1 cup of bleach for every 10-12 cups of water). This on any surface for 15 minutes is enough to sterilize it. Don't let it sit in the tank for too long, or it may cause problems with the silicon in the seams.
Rinse it out well 2-3 times. When you fill the tank for the first time (when it's in place where it will be used) I'd only add enough dechlorinator for another 1-2 gallons. Most of the chlorine will be gone with the rinsing.
PS - you can add the filter (except for the motor) and any of the other stuff you get with your tank to the bleach solution and stir it up a few times - this wall all will be sterilized at the same time. To do the motor, fill the hole where the impeller sits and wipe down the rest.

Each filter has a 40-Gallon capacity
I went out to buy a new 5-15 gallon Aqua Tech power filter for my 10 gallon cold water tank. once I bought it and I got home I realized I still had an extra filter cartridge for my old filter that won't fit in my aqua tech. so can i run both filters at once or will that cause too many vibrations and disturb and stress my goldfish causing them to die?
It really isn't needed. It won't harm your fish however running two filters may cause more of a current for your fish to swim against. Just besure it isn't too powerful.
They won't die goldfish love running water. Either way they should be fine.
water quality in my home is really bad it is very rusty and i think i have peptic ulcer cause by drinking it. Now I already installed sediment filters (not that expensive ones with that Indentt-know-what gas kind of thing). It went ok for several weeks but then the water starts to smells like iron.
1 Is it cause the cartridge need to be replace?
2 how often should you replace it?
p/s: I am using 0.5 micron cartridge

EcoUsable Filtered Water Bottle Giveaway - That#39;s Fit
I would use this bottle most at home. I believe that using open containers aids in the spread of infectious diseases, so I always use a closed container to drink from. I currently have a polyurethane canteen, which I am well aware is not BPA-free. I asked for a stainless steel water bottle for my birthday, but I didn't get one. Hopefully I will have one soon!

» Why Do Raw Foods and Filtered Water Make Such a Great Pair ...
Why do raw foods and filtered water make such a great pair? For most of my adult life, I’ve held the conviction that conscious attention to the water we drink; air we breathe; and food we eat, leads not only to an ultra-healthy lifestyle, but also a positive outlook on life. Those who live a raw or mostly raw food lifestyle tend to have a healthy appreciation for how food benefits the body. A trait that also carries over to the quality of water they drink. Unfortunately, both raw foods and our tap water can easily be contaminated. Fruits and vegetables are covered with pesticides and may be genetically engineered. Our water supply now is known to contain prescription drugs, pesticides like atrazine , chemicals and heavy metals. One of the many advantages to having an Aquasana water filter or whole house water filter is that even the water you clean your food with is...
