How much would it cost to repair or replace the plumbing in a 4100 SF house?

Worst cae scenario - how much to it cost to either replace or repair the plumbing in a 4100 SF house. I am considering buying a house which was left vacant in a Minnesota winter. At a minamum there are leaks at the coupling above the main shut off valve, the pressure reducer above the water heater, a waster pipe from an upper floor toilet, the kitchen refrigerator, a burst water softener filter cartridge and irrigation system piping from the house (above ground). The house was not completely pressurized to test other plumbing issues for fear of causing further leak related damage.

600
could be for the labor if they charge $60 an hour
I charge $90 in oregon
But he left out the costs of the materials
The pressure reducing valve is around 125.00
the filter housing is dependant of what it is
How bad is the irrigation damaged?
It all adds up
My guess at my rates
1500.00

PUR Water filter and leaking seals

The PUR water filter, filters the water, but the seals leak after changing one or two elements. I Wrote an email to the company, had no response ...

I have a 55 gal tank that i have changed 3x in the last 4 months. I get this foggy looking stuff above rocks?

The tank then starts to grow like a black mold on the rocks, glass, and plants. The fog kinda looks like cotton floating above the rocks. I have changed everything out each time. Its a fresh water tank and has a pretty expensive filter on it. I had 2 bubblers going at the same time I removed one thinking maybe to much oxegen. This started to happen after I moved into this new house. The house filters there water outside with just a filter cartridge. The ph is in the normal range on the test kit. I've done water changes. All my algea eaters have died off. I'm desperate, please give me some advice. THANKS:

oh no. If it looks like a light cotton floating, it is most likely a fungus. I have had the exact same problem. I was cycling myu tank and i notice little cottony looking things on the gravel. Turns out that the used driftwood I got, had some sort of fungus on it. I had to remove the decor and boil it all. Then i had to gravel vac the entire tank so that their was no more visible fungus. That took care of it...thankfully.

If I were you I would start by;
~Take out all decor and boil it if you can. You could always bleach it with a 1 part bleach to 20 parts water for 24 hours. Then soak it in a over dose of dechlorinator.
~Then I would gravel vac the whole tank so that no more fungus is visible.
~Finally let the tank run with out decor for a week and monitor parameters and make obsevations. If it seems to work, put the decor back in. Then continue to moniter it.

Changing bio-bags (filter cartridge)?

Well I was told to never change the bio-bag because it houses most of the beneficial bacteria. So today I just rinsed them with tank water. They seemed very dirty. The rinsing didn't really make it look any cleaner. Is it true that you never have to change these (because that is what I was told when I asked my previous question)? It makes sense that you don't want to lose all the bacteria, but at the same time I don't understand how you can never change them in the lifetime of the tank.

Thanks in advance. Hope you can clear things up for me.

What you are rinsing out is the physical dirt that the media filters out, the discoloration is normal. You will eventually have to replace the media, when it is falling apart.

What you do is rinse the dirt out of the old media, and let it float in the tank for a week to help in the transfer of nitrifying bacteria to the new media. Do not feed the fish for 24 hours before the switch, and feed about 1/3 normal for the next week, less food means less waste produced, minimizing the chance of any cycling problems.

Is my tank really cycled in 24 hours?

So when I purchased my 55 gallon tropical aquarium on Thursday, the lady had kept the sand in old tank water and she kept the old filter cartridges. She said that since the sand is already cultured and the filter cartridges already house good bacteria, it will be cycled in 24 hours.... is this true?

they had a black kuhli loach in the bucket with the sand.
The tank now has two pairs of german blue rams and a black kuhli loach and tomorrow it will have four zebra danios

Yes, if you kept the old substrate and filter media wet then most of the cycle bacteria will still be alive in the tank, so it will still have some amount of cycle. The water doesn't matter, it's the filter media that you have to cycle.

Just take your time building up the fish numbers again as you dont know how much cycle (how many bacteria) you actually have. They have to match the amount of fish in the system. But if you start with just a few fish and build up the numbers again slowly then you will be fine. The bacteria will multiply to match the number of fish, but it can take a few days for them to catch up after you add more fish.

My new house has a pool with a D.E. filter...?

The owners from before left the pool disgusting. Tons of algae and the water is near black. I've heard that I shouldn't drain the pool and should filter and shock it. I have a D.E. filter, and I'm thinking I'll have to use a bunch of earth. Is it possible to switch to a cartridge without a lot of hassle or what would you reccomend?

Drain the pool. Whoever gave you that advice was talking through their hat. Just don't let it set empty for a long time.
You might talk to a pool service and see about an acid wash. They will empty the water and clean the pool and refill it.
I would stick with the DE filter.

I would use this bottle most at home. I believe that using open containers aids in the spread of infectious diseases, so I always use a closed container to drink from. I currently have a polyurethane canteen, which I am well aware is not BPA-free. I asked for a stainless steel water bottle for my birthday, but I didn't get one. Hopefully I will have one soon!

How to Use a Whole House Iron Filter Cartridge to Treat Rusty ...

Iron is one of the most common elements in the Earth’s crust, so it is no surprise it finds it way into many home well waters. The maximum contaminant level (MCL) for iron set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency is 0.3 ppm. This can also be expressed as 0.3 milligrams per liter of water. In concentrations above 0.3 ppm, iron in water can cause staining of fixtures and porcelain, ruin laundry, and make the water taste terrible. If the right sets of conditions are present, a whole house iron filter cartridge can be used in place of the standard backwashing iron filters. These iron filter cartridges cost less than a standard iron filter, but may cost more over a period of a few years, because the cartridges need to be changed frequently. Since they do not require backwashing, they are often used in situations where there is a shortage of well water. They are easier to...
