I have a Moen single-handle Posi-Temp shower faucet. After replacing my water heater and turning the water back on, there was significant water hammer when I turned on the shower faucet. After that, the water is no longer off when the handle is at six o'clock; instead it shuts off at three o'clock. Turning it all the way counter-clockwise is no longer warm enough. Could the water hammer have turned the 1222 cardridge inside the valve? If so, do I just need to remove the cartridge, realign and reinstall it in the valve so that six o'clock is the shutoff position again? Or does the cartridge need to be replaced? Note that it is not leaking -- just misaligned.
No water hammer would not rotate the cartridge. But is it possible the attaching screw has become loose betweent he henadle and the cartridge?
Also the hammer may have loosened up some crud in the valve body/cartridge. I'd pull it (carefully) clean and reinstall.

Hi,
In my bathtub, I replaced moen valve 1222 thinking that this would be the problem of not having water coming out of the shower.
For my surprise, I still don't have water, however when the valve is removed, there is water coming out. A few drops occur with the valve installed.
please provide me your feedback if you know what is going on.
thansk,
remove the cartridge, turn 180 degrees, re-insert cartridge. It's installed upside down. To verify that the pipe rising to the shower head is not plugged, which would be unlikely in my opinion, take the cartridge out, put your hand over the cartridge hole and have someone turn the water on for you. This will force the water to go up the shower riser.
also, lubricate the cartridge with a small ammount of vaseline when you install it. This will keep the rubber washer from binding when you slide it in.

Filter cartridge is easily replaced
I have already established the type of shower handle I'm working with, the age is only 6 years old, and I have the right Moen Cartridge #1222 to make the replacement.
My lines seem to work fine. In a rarely-used bathroom, the taps at the sink work HOT and COLD. In the shower, the taps only run HOT. There's a crusted blockage of hard water in the cold line and I need to clean it or replace it.
I have shut off the water, removed the handle, removed the pieces down to the cartridge and removed the U shaped pin that holds it in place.
The handle was in the OFF position. I then proceeded to try to tug out the old cartridge and it wouldn't budge.
I went to the store and bought the new cartidge and read the instructions and even had a 'old cartridge removal tool' which didn't make the cartridge budge a bit.
I have extremely hard water and it has caused my COLD water opening in the cartridge to become blocked, therefore I need to replace this or never have any cold water going to my shower.
I cannot get the STUPID CARTRIDGE OUT, I'm going to pull out my hair!! How can I get this thing out? What am I doing wrong? What can I do to encourage a crusty stuck in place cartridge to come out so I can put the new one in! Please help!
Call Moen customer support...they'll probably send you a new cartridge too, as thgat unit should have a lifetime warranty.

the cold water is fine, and I know there is pressure from the hot water, it just wont come through the faucet, even after I replaced the cartridge...
I know the pressure is fine cuz I took the cartridge out and turned on the water, it came shooting out, so I know the line isnt plugged, is this a common problem with Moen?
there is a central boiler for my building, and the hot water in the rest of the house is fine, this is in my guest room that has only been used for about 1 week since the building was built 2 years ago
Turn the water off and remove the supply line from the shut off valve. Remove the cartridge and try to insert something like a coat hanger thru the line to remove the debris. it's probably a piece of the rubber washer from your shut off valve.
I received some good advice last week regarding some loud noise I have in my shower, and we've figured out that we need to replace the cartridge. I was able to find a cartridge at Home Depot, which has instructions in it. My only issue is that it specifically says to turn off the main water. I cannot do this since I live in a high rise condo. Is there a way to replace the cartridge without having the main water turned off?
Look on the other side of the wall from the shower valves. Maybe in the linen closet or another closet that shares a wall with the shower.
There should be a small panel with 4 to 6 screws. That is the access panel. Remove it to turn off water.
Good luck.

Moen Shower Body Cartridge Removal amp; Troubleshooting
If you have to replace the cartridge inside of your Moen shower body then you will need to follow a few simple steps. The Moen Shower Body cartridge inside of the posi-temp, Moen plastic cartridge and also the brass cartridge can all be removed, replaced and possibly rebuilt depending on the condition and age of the cartridge that is in the shower body. You will also need some tools to remove the cartridge form the Moen shower body. You will need a Moen cartridge puller, a Flathead screw driver, a Philips head screwdriver, and possible a pair or vise grips if the cartridge is really stuck inside of the shower body.
Once you have all of your tools ready you will want to make sure that the water is off to the shower body. You can just shut the water off to your shower if you have isolation valves for that fixture, meaning you will have separate valves to shut the shower body. If you do not have isolation valves to shut the water off to the shower you are working on you probably will have to shut the water main to your home of business. You must have the water shut off in order to remove the moen shower body cartridge. You cannot change, replace or even rebuild the cartridge if the water is still on.
