They just have to buy a small simple water filter instead of keep going to the store and buying heavy bottles of water. Isn’t it like way cheaper too? Why don’t people use water filters?


Bottles are grab and go. For home, the water filter is great. Bottles are better for on the run.

Where can I buy a good water filter, and what's a good brand?

I want to stop buying bottled water for the house and just filter our tap water. Can anyone tell me where I can buy one locally (Metro Manila)? What's a good brand? How much should I be prepared to spend?


Brita, or Pur. They are the two major brands. I use a Brita. If you use the model that screws onto your faucet, it costs between $39.99 and $29.99 depending upon where you can buy it. Pure costs about the same. Replacement cartridges are about $19.99.

I hear that Pur works a bit better than Brita, but that they get clogged easily.

If you want to just get a pitcher filter that you can put into your fridge, those are about $19.99 and the replacement cartridges are really cheap.

I would like a way in which i could use things which are easy to obtain, which would help me filter water.
Let us say if i was in a place which has very bad water contamination how would i be able to filter that water.
Also if someone has a suggestion to filter sea water using materials easy to obtain that would be most welcome.


If it's not salt water, just boil it for a few minutes. No harmful bacteria remain.
If it is salt water, then you build a solar still, using a cup and a sheet of plastic.

How can I convince my dad to buy a tap water filter instead of buying bottled water?

    This filter is great, but the biological part of this filter needs to be replaced (i believe 2-3 months), I don’t know if the biomax will lose performance if you dont. Other than that it is a great mechanical filter. When compared to penguin’s filters this filter wins in mechanical filtration, but the penguin in biological. They also make the same amount of noise, but this one makes alittle more because it requires a higher water level than the penguin filters. However, one thing in this filter that the penguin doesn’t have is the flow control which is really nice b/c sometimes i will move filters around to smaller to bigger tanks. Oh and this option let’s you reduce more impurities out of your water (if you want to). Other than that it still has the same restarting problems as the penguin filters.
