Is this is good price for a water softener and R/O drinking water system?
Modern rail car plumbing (English legends)

I received an estimate from Clearwater on a new watersoftener and a reverse osmosis drinking water system, everything inlcuded - including installation for $1600. My father seems to think that this price is high. Is it, or is it a fair price? Also if you have a softener, do you need the r/o system as well or is it ok to just drink the softened water?

Your paying to much depending on how large the water softener is. Yes, you should have a RO system along with a water softener. Water softeners raise the TDS(total dissolved solids) in water with excess sodium. It's not healthy to drink all that sodium. You can get a system much cheaper than that, not installed but installation usually cost about $200-$300 dollars. My company would sell you a top of the line water softener and RO for $1000.00 delivered to your house. Installation would be up to you. You would save 3-4 hundred dollars.

Can someone please explain how does the drinking water system work in the UK?
Equipped for survival (rail car plumbing, English legends)

Hi everyone....I've recently moved to UK, and would like to know how does the drinking water system work here. Is it advisable to drink water from the hot water tap in the house, or should we drink water only from the cold water tap.

Sources for any information provided would be appreciated.
Some people have told me the water from the hot water tap is a recycled water which comes after the waste water treatment....is this true.. ?

Tap water in the UK is fine to drink straight from the main feed.

Not a good idea to drink from the hot water tap or from a tank feed as the water has been standing and could have some sort of contaminants in it.
If the hot water feed is from the mains into a combi boiler then it is going to be ok.

All water is fed to households from the same mains feed - you would only get "recycled" water if the building was set up to do that and it is rare that any normal buildings would have any sort of water recycling set up.

Drink lots of water and work out at the gym so you can sweat it all out.
They check for any kinds of drugs that may still be in your system not just marijuana.

Bernalillo faces rising arsenic levels, second state drinking ...

The state Environment Department will issue a second violation notice to Bernalillo in the coming week, Drinking Water Bureau compliance manager Mike Huber told town officials and engineers Tuesday at a meeting held in the Department’s Rio Rancho field office.

“We’ll be issuing another violation to Bernalillo for Well 4,” Huber said, referring to one of the Town’s two currently used wells. The Department already issued a violation notice for the Town’s other active well , Well 3, last week.

A sample of water from Well 4 collected by the Department Dec. 1, 2009 had an arsenic concentration of 37 parts per billion, narrowly missing an “instant violation” threshold of 40 parts per billion, Huber said. Combined with other samples taken earlier in 2009, the finding brought the average arsenic concentration above 10 parts per billion, the maximum allowed under state and federal regulations.

Find Out If An RO Water System Fits Your Needs

A reverse osmosis filter, or RO water system, can be very valuable for removing water contaminants, including arsenic and dissolved solids. A reverse osmosis filtering system works by forcing water through a semi-permeable membrane. When something is referred to as semi-permeable, it simply means that some molecules can pass through the filter, while others cannot. This forces the cleaned, treated water through the membrane, while leaving the contaminants behind. Let’s take a look at the stages involved in the process and whether RO is right for your family.

A sediment pre-filter is used to extract larger contaminants like dirt, sand, dust, grit and rust particles from the water when present. An optional secondary carbon pre-filter is used to extract most of the organic chemicals and chlorine; providing enhanced taste and reduction of odor while helping to protect the reverse osmosis membrane, which can be vulnerable to chlorine.
