Does flipping the water filter/membrane over every so often increase the efficiency of your humidifier?
Gravity Water Filter

I have a large portable Honeywell unit (it is rated at 11 Gallons). Turning the filter over seems to be working. Every couple of hours I turn my filter/membrane over and the humidity output has increased by 5%.

I think it allows the water that has saturated the bottom of the filter to be be gravity fed over the entire surface when I turn it over which allows more moisture to be transferred into the air via the blower.

What are your thoughts on this?

true, we do this same thing. keep up the good work :D

Hi, although I don't know how to help you, but I can tell you a jokes to make you feel better. And the jokes goes:

-Doctor! I have a serious problem, I can never remember what i just said.
-When did you first notice this problem?
-What problem?

One more joke:

A guy calls his vet and says "What should I do with my cat?Vet says "What do you mean? Guy says "I had a leak in my lawnmowers gas tank and the cat drank the gas. Then the cat began to run around and around the yard, climbed a tree. then fell out of the tree stiff. Vet says "Is the cat dead? Guy replies "nope he ran out of gas.

Last of all just want to tell you that whatever you do, just don't give up. Also you must love and care for the people around you. In that way they will also show you the love that you show to them. Just be yourself and happy everyday. Wish you all the best and good luck!!

My jacuzzi has never really worked the gravity and weight of the water in the tub?

causes the water to empty out because the heater and filter system is at a lower elevation then the actually spa. Does anyone know how i can fix this. I've already tried to build a system of pipes to raise the water up, but it really doesn't work..Any idea's?...thanks

If the water is emptying out, you have a leak! A spa is a sealed loop, and most pumps have more than enough power to raise the water a few feet back to the jets. Just like a swimming pool can have the pump and filter many feet away from the returns, so too can a spa. The "water weight" does not bother a pool, or a spa, it is designed to hold the water. Once the tub is full, then so too must the pipes and pump. If the water level goes down, it is leaking somewhere. Fill it, keep it turned off and look underneath for a leak. Maybe the fiberglass is cracked? maybe a fitting is loose, but there must be a leak. Gravity and water weight have nothing to do with causing the water to drain out. That is what spas are designed to do, IE) hold up the weight of the water, and the spa users.

The only thing that having the pump a few feet away from the jets can do is cause a slightly weaker return force on the jets. but the water level should not go down.

Why can't I hook my swimming pool to an electric home water heater? The filter/pump will do all the work.?

I don't see why I can't build a little house for my water heater, allow water from the skimmer to fill it, use gravity for the water to leave the bottom into the filter, where it will be pumped back into the pool. Ok, but I don't have $800 for a regular heater. I'd be happy to put a cow trough heater in it to save the money and still have a warmer pool. Thank you for your time.
I don't see why I can't build a little house for my water heater (outside and independent of the house,) allow water from the skimmer to fill it, use gravity for the water to leave the bottom into the filter, where it will be pumped back into the pool. I have priced many water heaters, and for hundreds of dollars, they only promise a 10% or 8 degree warmer pool. I don't expect to turn it into a hot tub, just a little warmer. I don't care if the chlorine kills my existing water heater, because I'm going to throw it out anyway when I buy a new one.

You have to be crazy.

A swimming pool heater at full blast using ALL the water going through a swimming pool heater from the pump/filter will only raise your pool temperature about 1 degree an hour. IF you were to even consider a 40 gallon home water heater, then you are probably going to have to run it 10 hours for every degree. So if you need to run your heater to gain 20 degrees of temperature, you are going to need roughly 200 hours of time or a week and a day maybe with rough math. Not only will you have to run your heater, you also will need to run your pool pump, and that right there is also extra electrical waste. The amount of money you will waste on this idea in a single season will probably be enough money to buy 2 heaters. In a single day, with running your pool 8 hours a day, you will gain 16 degrees in 2 days <ok, maybe 14, as you might lose a degree or 2 at night while the cooler air of the night transfers energy when your water is warmer than the outside air temperature.> But in 3 days time, you will have heated your pool to the same temperature as a weeks worth of running your pool filter/motor and your "household" water heater for 200 hours. Im using that as a base only because i dont think anyone knows exactly how fast it can regenerate hot water, and if the water is simply flowing through your heater it could day an entire day for 1 degree of temperature, since these heaters are designed to fill up and heat the water that is in the tank, not running water... so when you look at the negatives this plan has... i wouldnt even consider it.
Do yourself a favor and just get it done right. Not only will this probably violate your zoning codes, which can get you in trouble with the town/city. It could have an impact on your insurance or other home based plans.

what should be the velocity of water through the filtration media of a Dual Media Filter?

Water reaching the dual media filter through gravity.

The best answer would come from the manufacturer.

  • Product Review: Doulton GSS Mini Gravity Water Filter Purifier.

Now how cool is this? Leslie from WaterCheck just sent me a Doulton GSS Mini Gravity Water Filter Purifier to test out and review, and I am very glad he did. This filter is totally portable, made from stainless steel, and requires no electricity to work - it works by gravity alone. My wife and I go camping quite often, and not only will this make a nice addition to our supply list to ensure we can always get clean drinking water, it will also come in handy should we ever face an emergency around here. It’s only 10 inches high fully assembled, weighs barely anything, and provides 1/2 liter of clean water per hour, so it would also be great to take along on an extended hike someday. According to the spec sheet, the filter will remove:

95%+ of chlorine ) even took water from the roof gutter before it reached the cistern and ran it through this filter and drank it…and it tasted just as good as the filtered...

How to Make a Gravity Water Filter

Is your drinking water really safe? Just because it has no odor and tastes fine doesn’t mean it is. Many contaminants are too small to see and have no odor. Of course, you can have your water tested and this is the best option to be sure it is safe. But some people still feel their water isn’t as pure as they would like.

If you have decided you ought to filter your water but are unsure if it will make any difference, why not make your own trial carbon water filter? It isn’t difficult or expensive, and it will give you the option of seeing what carbon can do to improve your water quality.

To begin this project, obtain these items: a twelve inch length of 2 1/2 inch PVC pipe, a 2 1/2 inch cap, a quantity of activated carbon, a piece of vinyl hose, and a paper coffee filter. You will also need a drill and bit the size of the outside diameter of the vinyl hose.

Drill a hole in the center of the PVC cap. Insert the vinyl hose into the hole, making sure it fits tightly. If it leaks, silicone sealant should be used. Push the cap onto the PVC pipe and, if needed, seal it with PVC sealer. Next, fold the piece of filter paper and push it into the PVC pipe so that it covers the hole in the cap.
