Can hot water damage a water filter?
Natures Presentation Of Colour

My plumber recently installed a water filtration system under my kitchen sink and when he left I noticed that the filter was hooked up to the hot water instead of cold. I called him and asked him what to do and he told me to shut the water off. So now I am just wondering if it has been damaged because of the hot water running through it. Thanks in advance!

LOL...cold water out of the tap can be almost 60 degrees..Hot water reaches over 100 degrees ..But yes..Hot water is not supposed to be ran through your water filteration system..It will not ruin the whole thing..Just the cartridges and paper products inside that are used for the filteration..Might swell an o ring or two..Did the Plumber include the filteration system in his price? Or was it one You ourchased then had him install it? Find the brand name of the system and google it on the night, then call thier toll free number..and get the exact info from them...

I have a whirlpool tub with a new hot water heater and a whole house filter. Water's rusty at end of fill why?
Out Of This World

With new tub, new hot water heater and a whole house reverse osmosis filter seems it shouldn't. Starts off clear and gets ruddy towards end of fill. What can I do to solve problem? Would appreciate any input - thanks.

This is probably happening because of old pipes in the house. Hot Spring Spas makes an attachment that will catch all of that metal debris and help purify the water before it goes in your tub.... its called a pre filter. We have the same problem in my spa showroom when we are filling spas. Use that pre filter.... no more problems. Theyre 50-60 bucks... totally worth it.

When I change whole house water filter I lose the hot water in my upstairs shower- how do I fix?
Patience Pays Off

I can only guess that you have a mixer valve on the shower.
You lose hot water because you get air bubbles in the line.
When you remove the filter, water drains back from the lines in the house and air gets in.
If you crack the hot water valve on the shower & let it bleed, you should get water back to it as the air goes away.
If you put a valve on the house side of the filter as well (it has one on the outside already), and turn both off before changing the filter, this shouldn't happen anymore.
You might be able to get away with turning off the water inlet valve on the hot water tank before changing the filter to prevent the siphon from draining the hot water line.
Otherwise, you'll be bleeding every time.

Ideas and Thoughts: A Guide To Whole House Water Filter ...

The vendors who carry whole house water filter replacement cartridges cater to those customers who have a whole house system. This is a filter system that connects to the main water line going into a home. The typical connection comes before the point where the line splits, sending part of the line to the hot water heater.

When a homeowner has a this type of water filter system then all the residents of the home can enjoy access to clean and pure water in the kitchen, the laundry and the bathroom. Of course that access remains a benefit of residence in the same home only one overriding condition-the homeowner takes the time to get replacement cartridges.

As any homeowner thinks about investing in a filter system for the entire house, he or she might have a few questions. Frequently homeowners ask this question: Can I use this filter to get pure water for the plants in my garden and the grass on my lawn?

The homeowner must examine the blueprint for the house, in order to obtain an answer to that question. The homeowner needs to learn where the city's main water line splits into a "house" line and a "yard" line. Of course, no garden or lawn can receive filtered water if a homeowner fails to purchase the needed whole house water filter replacement cartridges.
